Oh... You wait, Mister. As soon as the boys become more interesting than Dad for your future heartbreaker, you'll get all misty eyed and sentimental.

Tell me about it - she was swooning for a boy in her kindergarten class. A rather unkempt raggamuffin with hippie parents. :bang: I already miss when she was 4! :inlove:

Rode to work and back again today. Had the pleasure of watching a moron pass, slow, and turn right into the Starbucks driveway, right in front of me. I was tempted to reach out and break his taillight, but common sense won out.

I put a spell on him instead.:cool:

Even though it was hot and humid, I headed out. First time wearing sun sleeves. They worked for the most part. However, the radiant heat from the ground still feels hot. Once it cooled down enough, they were removed.

Headed out and hopped on our local Pain Divide, over to Oaks, out to Weir Cyn, out Weir Cyn to Deer Cyn Preserve and back through Weir/Oaks/IRP. Got a later start than usual...temps were showing 96* at the top of the Oaks.

2nd ride on the 34t ring on the SS.....back to back rides with similar stats. Seemed a bit easier today, but I didn't have any long/grind it out climbs. Everything was shorter and punchy. Cleaned everything I did with the 33t ring and the knees were happy. On another positive note, I eliminated the horrific creak that plagued me on Sunday's ride....my 22t cog is worn out, so I flipped it around and it is happy again.

Only pic today.......sun setting from top of Chutes

Not today, but.... Went up to Mt Laguna for some sub 24 hour beat the heat fun.

Evening start meant things were starting to cool down

Had the trails mostly to myself except for this guy, and a couple douche bags who decided it would be a great idea to throw up some hammocks next to the trail and light a campfire. It's only been 4 months since we've had rain, what could possibly go wrong?.... :bang:

I'm normally one to let things be but I reported their monumental stupidity to a couple firefighters I saw at the campground - they were going to hike in and have a chat with the boys. Finished my ride in the dark.

Good thing mine doesn't have it.

I check Wundermap weather stations around the Oaks. Gives me a good idea of where the temps are.

I rode my bike today. 18.4 miles, 2352', 83°, 1671 calories burned. Don't ask me how I know that data. :sneaky:

Two climbs up Cholla, because it's so fun, who doesn't want to do it twice? Followed by a climb up Mathis to ToW. :gag: Rock-It, Lynx and Meadows were the downs for the day - in that order. Warm, but not exceedingly hot, and less humid than the prior three days. There was a slight ocean breeze the whole time, which helped immensely. A few other trail users out, but I was mostly alone.

Tried out the new XT brakes today - I think they are working as designed. Hard to tell on the first day 'cause the pads needed to bed in. Seems like the levers worked properly instead of pumping up like my OEM set did. Fingers crossed.

Also first day back on my freshly-serviced Marzocchi. Seemed a little less supple today - still great at speed, but the DVO I was using for the past 5 rides was doing a better job with the small, stuttery stuff. Perhaps the new seals on the 'Zoke are tight and need a little break-in time. First world problems.

That is all. Bikes are fun! :)

Now I'm off to watch Liverpool take on Chelsea at the Rose Bowl. Scouser for a day.

Chances are good that my weekday rides are to & from work. No complaints as it gives me what I need and still lets me give the family what they deserve.

This mornings ride had a twist though. I actually saw somebody else on a bike. Took one of my funner routes through Tapia and early on caught up with another rider. The usual MTB chat started right away, you know where ya going, bikes, wheel sizes, trails etc. Then I ask his name. Turns out he's a pro racer, local legend and holder of like 8 frikkin pages worth of KOM's. Of course I pimped the site and he says "heck yeah that's a cool site" so who knows maybe he will join. No ego whatsoever just a cool down to earth dude enjoying an early morning ride and dialing in a new bike. Seemed to enjoy the company and I know I did. Witnessed a couple short bursts of explosive power like I've never seen before that let me know he could drop me like a bad habit any time.

Yesterday I hit up snow summit, first time back there since my crash there 2 years ago. Warmup run on Going Green, actually kinda fun, its a flowy trail and you can go really fast, and its looong. Then checked out the revamped Fall Line, the upper half is ths same but the lower half is rerouted. loose and dusty but fun. And nobody over there, of course. Then did a few runs each on party wave/west ridge and miracle mile/turtle. went around the bigger jumps this time wanted to play it safe, but i did a few of them like others have said they've toned down the vert on the lips. Had a blast on all the berms, drops, and wall rides, my favorite part is the deep berms on Turtle. I could see the work theyre doing on the soon-to-be-opened upper Turtle, looks fun. After last lift I pedaled over to and down Pineknot and then through town to Knickerbocker and up to towne trail and back to car. 9 runs and 6miles of xc all told. Thought id be sore today, but not! The lighter 650b blindside felt great in the park, and pedaled quite nicely for the final loop.
Not something Im going to do often im not really a bike park guy anymore (or have the $ for weekly park visits :( ) but it was nice to get out of the heat and do something different. High was maybe 83 but felt cooler with clouds and occasional sprinkles!

I commuted again today. 37 miles total. Always something different. Is it global warming? Or just high tide?

Thursday is a recovery ride day. Knew it was gonna be hot. So decided to check out nature's A/C and head out to Sierra Peak. You are almost always guaranteed cooler temps and a breeze. Key word there is almost. It was warm as expected going up Blackstar. We got to Beeks' and what do you know....no breeze. Bummer. So we continued on to Sierra Ridge.....hmmm, still pretty warm. Where is the breeze that we expecting. Surely it will be around the next corner, then the next corner. Before we knew it, we reached out destination. 88* and no breeze. Guess we would be denied today.

Started back and saw a couple deer running up the ridge. Typical run back down Blackstar. Pretty quiet out there.

Another fun morning on the San Clemente Single Tracks! Came down for a long weekend... not disappointed! My friend Mike from Carlsbad made the long trek up, and we rode for a couple hours. Played leapfrog with a group of three other riders for most of the morning. Love riding out here!

Probably no ride for me tomorrow... YES, I'm already going through withdrawals (I keep slapping the veins on my arm )
Cathy and I finally got a ride in with @JoeMac and his girl Debbie! Been well over a year. We did the perfect couples cruise on the VRT (Ventura River Trail). They both did great! Cathy kicked it like usual...
You beach pukes and your perfect weather.... 76 degrees? Went to Sharkey's in Ventura afterwards and chowed.
By the time we got to Castaic it was 104 degrees, our house was 95* when we got home. Kicked on the swamp cooler and chilled....

Rode from the garage this morning. Did a variation of a loop that I've done a few times now but added a few miles to it. This sort of shocked the wife when I said I would be home today. Told her I was going to ride early and that I'd be home for breakfast(she told me I was full of crap especially once I told here the loop I was doing). Ride had a little bit of everything including dirt roads, singletrack, blacktop & bike paths. Also tried out my new heartrate monitor today. Never ridden with one so didn't really know what to expect. Found out it's not hard at all to peg your max HR and for me it was challenge to keep it much below 160. I didn't really need it but new gadgets are fun.
    Screen Shot 2016-07-30 at 10.05.30 AM.jpg

Only stop of the day and it was just long enough to take a picture and send it to the wife so she knew where I was. Tailwinds makes food stops completely unnecessary for me on rides of 3-4 hours.

I woke up this morning w/o a concrete plan of where to ride. I had been talking about San Juan a few times as of late, so I decided that I would head that way for the day. Didn't have my strongest climb up, but destroyed my PR going down (6:46 faster). I was lucky as I only had two groups of up hill traffic I had to navigate, and they were both in easy sections with good sight lines so I didn't have to grab all the brakes. Even still, I wasn't going balls out, because the parking lot was fuller than I had ever seen it before. I suspect I did so well on the PR simply due to not waiting for regroups.

As far as the conditions of San Juan, it was actually pretty good. Sure it's rutty in places, but that's also just sort of how San Juan is. Quite a few pedal strikes as I was trying to power through some of the rocky sections, but nothing that bucked me. All in all, a pretty decent solo ride. You can't beat 30-35 minutes of sustained single track downhill.
