I Rode My Bike Today...

SS day in the hood. It was a workout and the best part I'm still alive. Stopped a few times for bar and saddle adjustments now the bike fits better than when I started. I guess if I want to be faster I will have to get a Ti. seatpost and dump the carbon..

In the interest of incrementing the page count of this thread toward 1500, I post yet another "I rode my bike today!" post...

Sawmill Mountain summit, ugh! This was an all-dirt day, and was truncated on the front end by late start due to impromptu work meeting that turned out to be worth the time, real WTF personnel moment. I tried to do the planned loop anyway, but got stopped by heinous deadfall.

Ride to the summit was interesting, good forest road leading to logging road leading to 'social' jeep trail leading up through the woods. I had to push a bit on the up but it was all rideable on the way down, sort of a bike-based bushwhack. The summit block turned out to be slightly large, and probably class 4. Didn't bring the right shoes, so didn't try. Otherwise, no views, heavily forested summit, but a nice campsite! After that, I tried another connector to Ackerson Meadow, but gave up when I faced a long visible straight blocked by several (4, maybe 5?) downed trees. It looked like where the sawyers last stopped, so I figured it would be a long battle ahead. Back to the car...before frostbite sets in. :gag:

Summit of Sawmill Mountain, not a tall block but built like a turret

Nice to see that. We have a 1000 Trails membership, maybe I'll hit that riding sometime.

Awesome! Simply awesome!

Didn't smell too smokey until I got closer to home this morning. Then it was obvious. Probably not the smartest call to ride the hills this AM. Yesterday I spent half my time clearing the trails of debris to make them passable until I gave up and turned back to home. Only one huge eucalyptus limb that would have take the the Rams O-line to move that I left. I broke off enough branches to make it bunnyhop-able.

I think I have it all wrong. Took the Beast out and did more climbing than the other bikes this week.
It should be the other way around.......
Ended up at the top of the 2nd highest peak in the hood, because I wanted to test out my fork settings on the downhill.
The good:
I had fun.
The small bump/rocks responce feels great, except for climbing which is a non issue on this bike.
The bad:
The low speed settings are not good. If I'm going down a fairly steep rock garden and there are gaps or steps (think large tread on stairs) between rocks it feels like the forks compress and stay compressed and blows thru the travel.
9.5 miles 1,494' elevation gain.

Launch pad you have to make it over little half dome or it will be ugly.

My rebound is set next to none. Just enough for a slight delay. That way the fork doesn’t stack, meaning it rebounds fast enough to take on the next hit.

Make sure your sag is correct. Then speed up rebound a couple clicks or add low speed compression a couple clicks or add a volume spacer. I would do one at a time in that order.

I rode Black Star ride today on my soft tail bike. Half way up the mountain it was gusty winds. I kept going as did many others. I parked near some E-bikers who passed me on the climb. They were returning to the tree farm via Silverado Canyon which leads me to believe they came down the Motorway. I took my usual pics from the Doppler. I led 2 riders down Boobytrap. The 2 riders were thankful and as they wanted more reward out of their day of climbing- 18 miles/ 2,500 climbing.
