Quick solo morning roadie. Haven’t been on the road bike for a few weeks. Super weather for the second week of November. It’s really tough living in So Cal.

Fun ride round L.A. parts... the buds and I all trained in from different directions, and met up at Union Station. $10 weekend price is hard to beat! First some coffee, then some fancy bikes, beer, riding around, stopping by Golden Saddle... back home!

Sixteen miles over five hours! Pushing for the slow-record!

Had to try and squeeze a ride in before wife had dr. appt at 11am. Chose to ride the road bike up PCH through HB into Sunset Beach. Dry to start then someone turned on the storm machine. As the front made landfall the winds had the rain coming down sideways. Made for quad pounding headwinds on 2 of the 3 directions I traveled.
26 tough flat miles. Loved every character building moment.

I realized I hadn't ridden the Defy outside of the garage for entirely too long, so today I went out and remedied that situation. Little tour of central OC. It seemed like there was a headwind every direction I went. :bang: I still had entirely too much fun.

I did a quick shake-down ride on my roadie today. The geo on that thing had become completely foreign to me. I was wondering if something was wrong, perhaps way out of adjustment? It wasn't.

For sitting untouched for at least a full year, it road remarkably well. It's very quiet, which I appreciated. I think I finished up with about 15 miles. Rode from home out to the Rose Bowl, did one lap and rode back. Of course, those miles were done in half the time as they would have been done on dirt. I hope to include one day a week on it just to mix things up.

Roadie again today. Just Riding Around, as they say. Not looking for PRs, or elevation, or anything but enjoying the ride. Accomplished!!

First decent road ride this year. The Rock Store climb has been closed for about a year and was recently reopened to cyclists and Yerba Buena has been repaved. Thought I would go check them both out.

Yesterday I rode from my office to the Riverside County Transportation Commission office at downtown Riverside to pick up a wet signature document. (6.69 miles round trip, probably 50’ of gain) The security wouldn’t let me take the bike upstairs to the third floor. Hell no I will not lock my bike outside; seriously!? My plan was to show off to the Commission and demonstrate there are a few crazies out there who are fulfilling the Commission’s goals to reduce VMT. They are after all our client, so I figured it would be good marketing. In the end I had to rely on my sweat and smell to prove I’m for real.

Come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any bike racks/lockers/amenities at AQMD the other day when justifying our AB2766 dollars.:Roflmao:rolleyes:

These guys had racks, but the commuter has bling (lights, pump, trunk bag with tools) and I’m not letting her exposed to society. I had to cross under the 215 and a 3-lane railroad without a grade separation to get there.

Enjoying a really great day for roadie-ing - except for the wind  - and the Surf City Marathon that got in the way.

I did not stop in and indulge. Too early.

Very mellow yet beautiful roadie ride along Sunset Dr. Dragged both kiddos along, as they need to clear their lungs and minds.
Successful outing, with minimal coughing or crying!

What to do when you're going stir crazy, it's raining on and off, and all the trails are mud pits? Grab the Kona and head out the door...

Straight down Antonio Parkway from RSM... The first 10 miles were pretty cool with very little traffic and no rain. As I descended to the 74, it began to mist. As I climbed up past the garbage dump, it started to come down pretty hard. Thankfully, it never felt cold and the 700 x 45 tires can handle water.

I thought about going to the end at Steed Park in San Clemente, but it was coming down really hard, so I turned around 1/2 way down the descent to Vista Hermosa. I was in the rain for most of the way back to the 74, but it felt good to be out. :D I hung a right on Cow Camp and explored the new bubble community of south OC. Lots of Wall-E paths and nature that you aren't allowed to touch.

Nature. Stay Out. :stop: Or is the T-Rex fencing keeping us in?

After having a bug all week I was pretty much ready to write the weekend off. Thankfully I woke up this morning feeling around 95% so I figured it was safe to get a quick spin in. Just local road stuff on the gravel bike. Jennifer joined me for the first half then my buddy Tony for the second. Roads were damp at times but mostly dry. Not the best ride but it was good to get out and take my mind off the current "crisis".

Well, I pedaled an actual bike today. 5 miles around the Sepulveda Basin bike path. The kid was cranky, I hurt my back getting bikes off the rack, and though my knee didn't actually hurt it sure felt susceptible. But, I pedaled a bike that moved when I pedaled it for the first time in 4.5 months. Woot?

I originally walked out to the garage with the intention of jumping on the Kona. Then I had the thought of maximizing the cardio in the short time I had available. Hill repeats on the single speed. :gag:

Although I did ride a set of stairs, and popped off a few curbs, this was a road ride... But... it still felt great to pedal the bike. :inlove:

Social distancing was maintained. Easily. Although there were a lot of runners and walkers out, I stayed on the pavement, and they stuck to the sidewalks. I wanted to get in an even 10 reps, but my window shortened mid-ride.

First road ride in a long while for me.

My Kona performed like a dream today, as always. I thought it would beat me up but that was not the case. I've said it before, but a road bike makes you feel like a superhero. Fast, fast, and faster is what it's all about. I set off toward the Rose Bowl with a quick stop at Cherry to snap a pic. Did one lap around the Rose Bowl and then headed over to JPL/Brown Mtn/El P. I wanted to see if it was still open and if so, how crowded it was. To my surprise, it was less crowded than it would usually be on a weekend, IME. Crossed paths with Albert ad we chatted for a few mins. He was finishing up what sounded like a great ride. I was planning to roll on the dirt up to the waterfall. I made it a ways but I caught up to a pair of horseriders and at that point the trail was narrow so I called it and turned around. Rode home incident free. The Specialized Sawtooth tires that I recently mounted (set up tubeless) on my Kona really shined on the mellow dirt today. Excellent traction from them. I'm running them at 45 PSI F/R. Nice and comfy PSI for the pavement, as well.

    21+ miles
    1500+ feet gain
