I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

Hold the mail, this thread is for sad sacks with no hope of immediate redemption... For people too occupied with relocating bikes to ride them.

Roger! Height of the season is no time to try to post up at Tahoe. Had to settle for Carson Valley off the right side. Still well in striking distance to the goods The kitties are taking it in stride

Well.....it was a few degrees over normal, and I wussed out.

But I had some bike work to do in the garage.....on my Highball C that I only had for a day.

I then noticed that the front tire on the tandem was flat. So I changed out the tube......yeah, I know, what's a tube?

I went all crazy and decided to put the complete wheel on the scale:



This is the lighter of the 2 wheels.

Granted it is a DT 440 FR hub, Mavic XM321 rim, Bonty SE5 Team 2.5 tire, 36 DT Comp Spokes, 36 Brass nipples, Magura 203mm rotor and a 26" tube......but still, that is 6 lbs. of rolling mass.

 

I also wussed out . Tried to go for a ride but right when I stepped outside at 8am I said this is not happening .

 

Because I’m in Texas (where it’s actually sub 100) at The Alamo where my daughter is being promoted to Captain in the Army today. Soon off to Germany for 3 years.

Last day in Richfield, Utah. I said to Courtney let’s peddle up the mountain. She said No. We can ride bicycles anytime- I want to ride my dirt bike . 105 miles round trip from Ritchfield to Koosharem, Utah and back. We got caught up in a hail storm on top of the mountains. Time to break out the Glad trash bag rain gear. We were soaked and cold but by the time we got down off the mountain it was in the 80’s.

 

Are you allowed to have RedBull stickers if you are not sponsored by Red Bull? Hey - wait a minute...

 

I really need to take my mountain bike back up to that area. It's heaven on earth.

 

Where did everybody go?

I went for a surf this morning at San Onofre Bluffs again, and no one was there. What is happening? It is a weekend right? It is sunny and warm, with no winds. The water is warm, the waves were gentle 1-3', but sufficient for longboards or some of the wider, thicker "fun" boards. I'm not complaining, but it is very weird. Lots of shorecasters sending out gear for me to get snagged on when coming back in.

No traffic on the 5 through San Clemente on the way home at 11 am. It's usually locked up pretty tight on a summer weekend. No line at Pedros either.

Dana Point was crowded. In fact, I drove around via Camino Capistrano and Stonehill. Maybe everyone was at Doheny.

Ah well another beautiful morning of empty waves, sunshine and warm water in SoCal. Who knew?

 

The freeways are oddly empty today. I drove through sections of freeway that always have numbers...but not today.

I was figuring that the heat had scared everyone out of going outside.

 

Probably all the shark activity down that way, keeping trails nice and empty.

 

I did see some dorsal fins today... luckily the critters had horizontal tails and not vertical ones.

 

I bought it this way in 2010 however you need to supply a valid vin # to replace graphics.

 

My other hobby, playing auto mechanic. Found a broken exhaust manifold bolt the other day. Luckily no exhaust leak, yet. Removed the fender well to gain access, then center punched, drilled and extracted the broken bolt out. The local auto parts store had the replacement bolt for $1.02. Oh the money you save performing the work yourself. But it did cost me some riding time.

 

Went out to the garage and the rear tire on the XTC was flat. I think I'm gonna have to re-tape the wheel. Better yet, get a new one.

 

Sandpaper and a rattle can will do the trick...no Vin required.

 

My daughter says the crowd is at Huntington. No thank you!

 

That persistent problem can only be solved...

...by getting a new bike.

 

Technically, I can't post here because I did ride my beach cruiser with wife and daughter on the Balboa Peninsula. Fun Zone, TK burgers, more Fun Zone.

Started the day with a nice surf at Church. How can I pass up 70° water and empty waves? I still suck, but I am getting back to my nearly competent, almost mediocre self.

I love summer!

Skypark with the fam on Thursday. Who's in? Need someone to show me the goods while wife and daughter are zip-lining or whatnot.

 

70’!!!! dang, that’s nice! I hang out and pretend to surf with my daughter in Ventura, Faria, Mondos and Emma wood, Rincon...not 70’!
If someone’s willing to show you Skypark I’d maybe try to peek in..I’ve never ridden it and wanna check it out

Spent some quality Moto time up in Washington this past week...

 

Went for a drive around the N.B. Coast. Went able to get a hold of a bike, so no riding for probably another week.

The water is 75° and there are consistent 4' waves. Trunks baby! If the wind is blowing, it's warmer in the water than in the air!

I still suck at surfing though. But the dolphins I was hangin' with didn't seem to mind. They got a good laugh out of it.

 

ahh, but just being out in the waves is heaven! How’s the injury?
