Did some trail work with MWBA Sunday and it wore me out or it feels like it did.

 

Not today. Was up removing rain ruts on Just Outstanding with my gas powered MTB. Trail is now perfect for summer.

 

Very short ride, left the trail head, headed up Marshall Canyon, at the second stream crossing the chain was slipping really badly when applying a lot of force, played with it trailside for a while, turned around and came home.

I had just put on a new chain, which I measured against the old quickly before putting it on, and looked to be the same length. Buuuut, just did the large ring large cog test and it looks like I'm a link too long.

 

I've ridden The Plunge but have never ridden JO yet. It's on the list for this Summer for sure.

Oh....and so I don't derail the thread....I didn't ride today because I was too sore after yesterdays ride on Mt Wilson.

 

Heading to the Path in a few to drop off the Huffy for some suspension service. Hopefully the last time I pay for regular maintenance on my fork and shock.

 

...because I worked on it instead...

 

I worked on @Faust29 bike, but my knee and hip were not happy after riding the tandem yesterday.

What do you think caused the problems?

 

The tandem is way overforked....so the seat tube angle is really slack....even slamming the seat all the way forward, I am still a little behind the BB. Add that to sitting and pedaling up a few steep pitches....it just adds up.

 

There's your problem right there.

 

Is the fork set in it's lowest travel setting?

 

With a 180mm Fork, trying to get both of us standing and pedaling in just the right rhythm is really difficult.

 

It’s a Marzocchi 66 coil from 2008...:there are no travel settings or lockouts.

HA is already steep...wheelbase is already runway long....don’t need to make it any longer.

 

Maybe you should invest in one of these?? Just turn it 180 degrees... Problem solved!

 

A rider I know did that to lesser degree on his bike.

An inexpensive alternative:

Dump the suspension fork and rear suspension shock (if it has that) and put a rigid fork on it to steepen the STA.

 

Then I might as well ditch the tandem, since it’s FS.

Not necessarily. A rigid tandem rides on smooth dirt as well as any other rigid bike would. A bud of mine has a tandem roadie. He and his wife ride it together once or twice a month. I doubt the frame could handle the constant chatter abuse riding off road would supply.
