I DIDN'T Ride My Bike Today, Cuzz....

Brutal!

Laguna Weather 9-5-24.png

Last Friday night I was using a squeegee on the sliding door in our bathroom having just showered when it popped off the track as I moved it and got stuck in the lower guide rail. I tried lifting it back up from the mounted handle and Kabash! The entire door shattered all over my legs. A dinner size plate of shattered safety glass cut my foot before it could crumble apart. Blood everywhere. Glass everywhere. I got small gash 1 inch long and not too deep. It was probably worth 2 or 3 stitches. When it happened, I was trapped in my birthday suit yelling every safe word I could think of to get my wife to help me. Oaklahoma! Pineapple! and so on. Pissed it happened. The safety glass did its job. Maybe there is something to be learned here.

Oooof. That could have been really, really bad!

This is our previous house, the morning of buyer’s inspection when we were in escrow to sell.

I have the same cellphone pic! Think of that. I took the time to take a pic while she was finding bath mats for me to get out on while trying to come up with a good story to tell. My photo has a lot more blood, shows me standing in the glass and the cut on my foot. I don't think I should post it but would send it privately.
Sorry Buggravy- no doubt you were under a lot of stress that day.

Yes I am quoting myself. This forecast turned out to be way off. It was actually in the 90s in Laguna this weekend.
You had it easy there bud. We had a two or three days of 110s along the base of the San Gabes. Today, it's ONLY 104. o_O

Of course, I was up in Big bear during the worst of it but Steve was texting screen shots of temps readings around him.

I was at the beach where it was in the 80s and the water was in the 70s. Surprisingly few people at San Onofre or any other beach today, and fairly empty freeways at 3 pm - unheard of. People must have hunkered down instead of flocking to the beach.

The NOAA started using different weather modeling about seven or eight years ago. I didn't know that at the time, but noticed and started digging because that's when their point forecasting got markedly worse here and has stayed that way. It was actually kinda okay before that and had been gradually improving.

Knee was sore enough that I thought if I needed to drop my left leg down on the side of a cliff it might give way and send me atumblin'. So I rescued my wife from mtb widowhood and scouted out El Chorro Regional Park. Walked to the top of the Discovery trail above the botanical gardens and scoped out the view. Then went to Pismo Preserve. This looks like it is likely legit mtb riding habitat. New dirt for next time. :D Early out tomorrow to beat the traffic - estimated time to vacate SLO: 2:30 - 3:00 am. Enough with the stinking 101 at any normal time.

I actually had a great drive home considering all the construction going on above and below Santa Barbara. Safe travels...

Set up the bullet puller in the press (had to fix an error), pulled the handle, and this:

So of course my inner Boy Scout kicked in and I proceeded to make a new workbench top that WON"T do that.

2 x 6 tongue & groove; it's now wider and deeper than it was, and much stronger. Now all I have to do is put a coat of urethane on it, drill for the vise attachment bolts, and I'll never have to do that again.

Husky has much to answer for. Wimpy stuff is not good.

Finished. Just waiting for it to dry.

It's Sat and I needed to wash the filthy Telly. Squirrels thought they had taken over so I croaked 2 with the .177 scoped air rifle. Rats with fluffy tails. My next door neighbor feeds 'em, fattens them up and I dust the vermin. Symbiosis in the hood.
