Stupidly, I argued with the concrete masquerading as dirt at CHSP with the result being a shoulder separation and three fractured ribs. I'll be hoofing, not riding for three weeks, the longest I've been off the bike in 40 years (IIRC).

Wow - that's rough.

If you can recover from broken ribs and a separated (same as dislocated?) shoulder in 3 weeks, you are superhuman. My dislocated shoulder (at 50 yo) took me two months of sometimes-agonizing physical therapy, and my broken ribs (at 57 yo) required a solid 6 weeks.

Thanks for the kind words; they facilitate optimism. The ribs didn't puncture a lung, so I'm giving them two weeks; the shoulder thing is new to me so maybe three.

    I hope you're right.

And at the risk of being Debbie Downer, I have never seen that timeline for those injuries. For me with the same injuries - the ribs were around 4-6 weeks and the shoulder was about 6-8 wks. If you heal in two weeks, I want some of whatever you are taking.

The ribs are basically healed, and I would be riding if I wasn't afraid the shoulder might "collapse". The best way for me to get back on the bike is to hike (UGH!), which I've done the last four days in a row (no fun especially with your arm in a sling). If I can keep this up, I'll be riding soon.

best to you and your healing. Hiking is not bad, everything passes in slow motion so you identify things differently. And I kicked live steamers off the trail as I passed.

I hate to say it, but hiking is starting to be fun, and you're exactly correct that you get to see more (plus with some of the more comely attractions, for a longer interval). It'll do for a few more days.

Separated shoulder is a pull or a tear of the ligament between between clavicle and scapula. not the same thing as a dislocated shoulder, which is humerus pulled out of the socket. Depending on the grade of the separated shoulder. healing times vary. I had a shoulder separation caused by a crash in 2008 and couldnt really ride anythiung rough for i think six weeks. Took months for it to completely go away to where I couild lift weights again.

Thanks for telling me about your experience. The doctor said Grade 3; my next appointment is in a couple of weeks. The good news is today was the first day when my ribs and shoulder didn't hurt until the hike was almost completed.

I've gone back down the rabbit hole I put aside about 20 years ago, that many people in California think is seditious. I guess I needed another expensive hobby since I retired.

Parsing powder type, bullet weight, muzzle velocity and downrange energy is math. And time consuming. But I had forgotten just how fun it is.

    .41 Magnum Model 57.
    12 gauge 870 Fieldmaster.
12 gauge Remington UMC Model 10 (about 100 years old, was my dad's, shouldn't be fired according to gunsmith).
.303 Enfield No 4 Mk 1 - need to get it checked out.
Hawthorne Warrior M820B (Mossberg) .22 bolt action.

I'll probably only reload for the .41 and the Enfield. Shotgun shells are cheap. .22s are also cheap.

And a few wheel guns from the 1950's.

If you need anything, let me know.

I have a 410 also. I have a MEC jr reloader I never use anymore. My reloading expert friend passed away and I don’t have a safe place to store powder and don’t remember the formulas he used. Do you have a reloaded for the 410?

We have a couple of boxes of ammo for the 410.

I recently picked up a Glock replica handgun .177 caliber for ratting. Damned thing is powerful. Blows holes right through rats. I gotta watch out for ricocheting BBs when I fire it.

Use copper BBs and not steel or pellets if it will shoot them.
    Sorry for derailing the topic.
