This chunk just got sussed – most of Sierraville to Big Pine. Alleges to contain some sandy FRs.

No doubt I'll be on it later this year. West side of the lake and east side of the pink loop (Caldera 500), around 380 miles. Looking forward to some self-supported mileage in the Golden State, basically out the front door.

@mike I can give you about 800 miles down the west side as well if you want to do some more guinea pigging. Sept/Oct timeframe would be ideal for that. We might be able to add a couple hundred more to connect down to it from that yellow line as well.

Right on, ev. An idea brewing around here is a route that encircles the Sierra. So, yes, the west side would be key

I like the idea of a route around the Sierras both so that we have a loop option, and so we have two options for the Orogenesis Route which might deal with seasonality a bit. We'll see - some want to route the east side route through Death Valley.

Did I hear it correctly that the authorities ended up releasing the son to stop the violence?

You did indeed. Either "to stop the violence" or because some corrupt politician heard what was going on and put the brakes on it.
