Please remind me to never again say "it's all down hill after this" to a group of mountain bikers. I digress.

I was informed after the ride today that as the ride organizer I also bear the responsibility of initiating the ride report. Had I known that I might have bothered to take, oh I don't know, at least one single pic. One demerit for me.

Today was the rescheduled IMTB Cheese social. A mighty group of 10 was the final tally. @Mikie @SnakeCharmer @Voodoo Tom @Walleye @scan @redwoods @JoeMac @Faust29 @scottay and myself. A gaggle of strong riders kept the pace more brisk than social, and breaks were short. It was perfect. We opted for the full pull of the proposed route, and the weather was kind to us, with the sun not peaking out until we sat down to lunch at Sharkeys.

This was truly a blast. It doesn't get much better than the 3 mile romp down Sheep Corral in a group like this. It's so stoke inducing sharing a trail so near and dear to my heart with friends. Awesome as always riding with familiar faces, some of whom were first time Cheesers, and nice meeting a couple folks for the first time. Thanks everyone for soldiering through that final (optional) climb so we could finish with the fast downhill. I heard some grumblings that I'd sandbagged on the anticipated climbing, but I believe I advertised 20 miles and 2,800 feet. Strava machine tells me I ended up with 19.4 and 2887, so suck on those cold hard stats. @Walleye gets the award for most miles driven, coming all the way from San Diego county to sample the Cheese. It was a pleasure, gents. Let the real reporting, with photographic evidence begin.

Matt, it was awesome! I don't get to ride with most of you guys hardly ever, and it was a great group and great route! I liked the mix of flowy and technical climbing, and flowy and hard-charging descending.
2800' in 20 miles is a nice balance of numbers - we complain because it's just what we do. I don't think anyone didn't have a smile at the end.
For the record, SoCal does have an actual, real-life bog, and we found it...

Another great ride with a great group of riders and friends. @buggravy, our Host, was on his home turf. @Walleye was representing the Deep South. @redwoods and @scan were representing the East. @Faust29 and I were representing Southern Canada. The rest of the boyz were Northerners. And as stated above, it's great to see other members rolling on the stuff you hold dear. :inlove:

I did not take any pics today which is unusual for me and my GoPro battery was dead even though I charged it 48 hours ago.

Sharkey's afterward is always a great way to seal a Cheese ride. We indulged, we reflected, and we enjoyed.

Until next time, thanks everyone who made it out today.

~Matts GG Smash is drool worthy
    ~ So is Snakesss Banshee
~That chick was jogging 10.6 mph Garmin verified
~Les hardtail was the perfect bike for the climbs
~Above bike beat the sh!t out of me on the downs
    ~Rock-n-Roll gold hates water crossings
~I hate the sounds my drivetrain makes after those water crossings
    ~34-51 gearing FTW
~I f@cking hate gophers and the holes they leave
~My 100mm fork has at least 102mm of travel with the o-ring smashed flat

Hey, I never said how many moments of effort there would be ;). Maybe it should have been effort, with moments of easy.

Great synopsis. And yes, great day!

I have several minutes of video of us trying to pass that young lady. And it wasn't for lack of room. She wasn't even breathing hard.

The part I highlighted in green really should be in the lube thread...

Great ride @buggravy! Nice meeting you and some of the the others I haven’t rode with before. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the swamp crossing and especially the death climb at 16.5 miles was a nice surprise! Here are a couple pics...look forward to the next ride

    Holy Swiss and Cheddar!
Another episode with some of the Hooligan Nation. Bugz did great! His new battery powered knee brace thingy propelled him out in front at times, or it was the fear of getting lynched for, "It's all down hill from here." Mentioned a couple of times.
Not "exactly" sure what I'm going to be able to add other than the Cheese is uphill both ways (except where it's not), other than the fact I had an awesome time!

One guy brought the wrong bike... :whistling: kept bragging about his chain lube...:cautious:

The weather was awesome other than a little balmy. When I was done with the ride I was soaked in sweat.

Uhhhh yeah...:cautious: 22 trophy's with 6 of them PR's. 10 riders and I show we averaged almost 8 mph! I'm most proudest of the Lenny Kravitz Look segment! I want to Flyyy Awayyyy.

So Bugz is new at the ride report thingy so here is our stats.

Great meeting you as well! And thanks for the evasive action you took when my line closed out as we were bombing down Palo. That was a pucker moment. Love "death climb". At that stage it's exactly that. Actually, at any stage that climb is a soul crusher.

The D is for downhill, and the bronco is a a mountain biker busting a wheelie. In all seriousness it was a limited run, limited because they were really toeing the line of trademark infringement.
