First, thank you all again for your kind words, thoughts prayers and well wishes. :inlove:

    Progress update:

    Owwwie!

Shoulder is sore but tolerable. Drugs help with sleeping, but I don't take them during the day. I am typing this with two hands, on my computer. Rib pain is surprisingly minimal. I am still sleeping sitting up. Follow up appointment with ortho in a week or so. Then physical therapy. Back on the bike by 4th of July I hope.

Still really concerned and disturbed by why I would have fallen, and why I've slapped down hard twice in a month on relatively easy sections of trail. :bang:

Thanks again and cheers!

I had a burst popliteal cyst the week before the Big Bear ride. It presented as a blood clot (of which I have had three). Not bike related.

Not you! I was asking @Postal Pat .

Maybe you crash cause you average 2-3mph faster? Don’t forget the stool softener.

You/your Ortho is more optimistic than me. Realistically I’m looking at at least 3 months until full recovery. And your injury is alot more extensive than mine. Maybe your bones are much younger than mine.

Simple answer....you are going alot faster than you think you are. Big wheels skip over the tops of those big rocks, allowing increased speed.

The slam on the turn....chalk it up to a mistake. I basically did the same thing at Palm Canyon back in Feb. Wheel just got to close to the edge and found a soft spot.

They tend to say crashes are like flats....they come in 3's.

Yes! I was over cooking corners regularly when I first got a 29er. Led to a few crashes and bailouts.

For my ribs, I stopped the Norco and started eating Uncle Rossage's locally famous, adults-only, brownies.

Chris, I mentioned scapula to my radiologist friend. Rare breakage requiring immense force, he said.

I think that could be subject of protracted discussion.

I'm tending to think it's mostly bad luck that you tipped just beyond the edge you have approched so many times before on your familiar bike. Not to say other factors don't come to bear. E-burner said it – riding a bike that begs bad decision making?

He described the crash as his tire deflecting left during the last two feet of the rock garden though. That bit is still very straight. Speed is also your friend through the rock garden (sage advice from the person who first showed me that trail).

True....but @herzalot is used to going Lightspeed down RockIt.....the MegaPlower allows him to go Ludicrous speed.

Ya about two weeks after that. And @herzalot I totally agree not understanding how we hit the ground sometimes, still have no idea what happened to me and seriously up until just recently I was still apprehensive on the bike but a bump on the head will do that to you:Roflmao

Isn't that the 3rd Megatower crash? Twice as you mentioned above and another before when you demoed one?

@herzalot of course nobody really knows, but if I was guessing a new ride needs some dialing back no matter how good she feels, I could be wrong, but if I recall you were not on her very long. This may not make much sense to most but I like to feel the trail a little more, it sounds like to me, and I have never ridden one, that the Mega you can sit on it and just plow ,@Voodoo Tom calls his bike fluffy. I tend to agree with @mtnbikej that the bike could have quickly made you feel like pushing that edge you know so well and then it ended badly twice, perhaps the lay down was due to the bike not railing the corner you are so used to at that higher speed? When I first got on the new SB-6 I was riding Chileo and in the chunk, I fell into the same trap, had to much speed and got off line and could not steer out of it, I saved it but not before catching a stupidly cut sharp manzanita that sliced the side of my knee open. That was enough for me to realize I need to get to know the bike better. Just a guess? The longer you are on the bike then it starts to feel like home. That is why I hold on to bikes for so long. I like familiar. I am genuinely happy you will ride another day. The bike might get in your head psychologically. If it does find another.

Normally I would recommend you stay away from a bike that bucked you during a demo, but that was a Hightower, so your Megabonecrusher technically is exempt.
