Hello and greetings from Big Bear!
My name is Craig and I found my way over here from the old STR site (what a shame to see it die).
Anyways, I wanted to reconnect with some of my old riding pals and make a few new ones.
If you are riding in Big Bear and want to connect for anything from cross country to enduro to DH, give me shout. It does not matter to me what ability level you are, I am just looking to spend time riding with other human beings!
That said, if you ride with your dog then I definitely want to connect. I manage the local veterinary hospital here and I also run a trail-dog specific website. I'm always looking for other MTB-dogs to ride with!
That's it for now. Have a great week,
    Craig (and Timber)

Holy ghost of the lost...you took how many years to find us? Yanking your leash, doggie :D Welcome, Craig. Hope to share some dirt when I get back to SoCal. That was good times in Idy. Come up to Tahoe/Truckee and ride when you get PTO. Cheers!

Welcome! Glad you found your way over from the rotting corpse of STR.

As Herzy says above, there will be a large group up there on the 10th. The last time I did the "large IMTB Big Bear group thing", there were two dozen riders. o_O Normally, that would be the perfect recipe for a giant clusterfuck. But... There were just about zero issues. Pretty crazy... Hope to see you there.

Welcome @Craig Lassen. Always nice to have a BB local for up to date trail conditions. Looking forward to rolling along with you some time, hopefully for our upcoming group ride.

    Welcome!
I’m curious as to what type of dog you have!? I’ve tried bringing my lab pit mix on a few mtb rides and it’s too much for him( he threw up twice). I’m thinking a Cattle dog or Border Collie may be faster and have more endurance.
    That is all :)

I'm guessing dogs, like humans, need to work up the endurance.

Welcome to iMtbtrails Craig! On the 10th there will be a cluster of us..so jump in!

Howdy! Mine is an 80 lb. Shepard-Otterhound mix. He's a bit of an orthopedic trainwreck, so we've repaired his elbows and knees over the years (from bad design, not abuse). We limit our rides to 5-8 miles and if we've not been consistent, shorter. Those cattle dogs and collies are wonderful for the long fast stuff. When I take the dogs I have to change my mindset and remind myself that "this" ride is for them, so we go slower and take more breaks. If I don't manage them, they will run themselves into full-blown heat stroke. In fact we are recording a PSA tomorrow on that exact topic.
Nice to meet you! If you bring your dog up, let me know and we can sort out a dog specific ride.

My Lab could hang for 15 miles, after that if she laid down she was done and she wouldn't move.
My Border Collie could go all day and kick your ass on the climbs!

Unleashed dogs on trails are right up there with e-bikes. Just the way it is. Leash them, or keep them elsewhere.

That’s impressive! I took my lab pit for a 10 + and he was toast, but he can go on an 18mi run with me no problem. He’s been an athletic dog since he was a pup, and he’s now 5-6yo
So it’s obviously the speed that does him in @Danimal

oh ok, that makes sense. So not a serious ride, just a really a chill ride for enjoyment...that’s cool!
Which trails do you ride w your dogs?
My family has been wanting a second dog and my pick would be a mixed breed Aussie, cattle dog, collie (rescue of course) or something along those lines for a distance running partner and possibly Mtb too!
Looking forward to meeting you and talking more on this:)
