Hello everyone! I ride an ebike, but I swear I'm not an enemy.

Read my bio. I LOVE BIKES. All kinds. Currently riding a Haibike as my first choice because I am horribly out of shape and my knees are shite due to major surgery on both a couple years ago. The Haibike affords me the luxury of being able to stay out on the trails much longer without horrible knee pain. But I still own a 100% human powered Scott Hardtail and I still try to ride the piss out of that one when I feel frisky and think that I am in better shape than I really am. I am hoping to use this forum to learn about local trails and hopefully meet a few of you out there. Thanks for letting me in the community.

Hey, I thought you all only hated e-bikes and e-bikers when they rode illegally on trails they are not allowed on. Frank doesn't say he's doing that.

 

That crossed my mind first and foremost before I replied. The issue is, it is still unclear where, if anywhere, it is legal to ride an e-bike on trails. For every piece of literature I read that claims it's legal in a given location, I read elsewhere that it is not legal in that location. There is too much grey area on this matter.

 

So before this blows up like EVERY eBike thread blows up, here is some background.
I saw that @Frank had signed up, and I try to take a peek at a new members portfolio, where they live, their IP address to make sure they are not from India, and interested in what bike they ride. Saw that it was a Haibike. I froze! Decided to PM Frank and welcome him to the site and then as a friend shared that listing an eBike as his bike might not go well. I also suggested not mentioning eBikes and to do some research on the site to see how earlier eBike discussions went.

I’m not exactly saying he blew me off in that regard, but I do think Frank was under the dillusional that he was not going to soak up our dark clouds, and convince us he’s a good guy who rides an eBike. I asked him to not do that or please reconsider.

So you can see the opening post. I tried my best to share a joke with some element of truth to it... And here we are! Already beginning to gear up.

I’m smiling right now and in a cheery mood but to be honest I’m about to mouse trap if I have to put up with another eBike discussion and watch us get all worked up about the do’s and don’t of eBikes. I guess if I didn’t care about the imtbtrails family and was a lousy moderator I wouldn’t give a Sh!t. But I do...

I don’t consider myself an elitist, I consider myself a mountain biker. eBikes are not mountain bikes. Thus my response and reaction.

So if we started accepting eBikes and eBikers on the site, what... we start a new forum for eBikes? Nope! This is a mountain bike site. I can’t relate to anything an eBiker does? What, applaud they climbed 5k in a 20 mile ride? It has a FN motor! So so what? It’s oil, and we are water. The two do not mix.

What’s the chances of us moving on?
