I'm guessing attempting this on a '96 Proflex with 2.0 tyres and v brakes is probably going to rank right up there as one spectacularly dumb idea?

    Nope! Perfect plan! :whistling:
(In all truthfulness... It's really fitness and skills that matter. There is absolutely no reason a 1996 Proflex 856 could not make this journey. Although you will probably burn through half your brake pads on 7 Oaks and it would be a hoot to watch you descend the last quarter of the trail on those 2.0's! :sneaky: )

Sweet, I think I'll wait closer to the cut off date before committing fully. That weekend is hopefully when the rest of the bikes turn up from ol' blighty so we could well be moving, should have a better idea in a week or two.

98% in. That's week 4 of 4 consecutive bike related weekends. I'm going to put my big boy pants on and admit I can do all of them. The only limiting factor here is if my knee holds up, but I've got ample time to re-hab it and work on it before this run of craziness.

I've got a truck that can seat 5, and easily haul 5-6-7 bikes. Not sure what logistics plans are, but consider me willing to help figure it out. It looks like it would be about 50 bucks for me to rent a trailer for the weekend, so if by some odd set of circumstances, we end up with too much attendance and logistics becomes a problem, I could rent a trailer to schlep all of the bikes to the top.

I’ve done that..::and it seems as though the last ride, usually the least strenuous, hurts the most.

Appreciate the offer for a trailer, but we should be able to make it work without spending extra $$.

This is one reason I posted the ride up so early...so the peeps could get it on the calendar before something else takes its place. :sneaky:

Do you guys typically hire a shuttle for this ride or do a shuttle using personal vehicles? I think somehow I missed the first few posts.

I am just trying to figure out how do I get there. Do I drive to Big Bear an leave my car there and ride to Hangar 24 or leave a vehicle down in Redlands and shuttle up to BigBear?

Most likely you rendezvous at Hangar 24 and consolidate into fewer cars to drive to the Trailhead. Don’t forget to bring your keys with you on the ride if you leave your car at the bottom.

Am I breaking any rules here Zilla? Lemme know if you’d like me to look into finding shuttle driver(s).

Nope, if I wanted to pay for a shuttle, I’d sign up for Bike For Bender ride.

We meet at Hangar 24 in Redlands, cram as many people into as few of vehicles and head up. At the end, we go back up and retrieve the vehicles.

The logistics are what helps keep the group small. You really have to want to do the ride...but it comes at a cost, and that cost is time.

Some of my rules have been lightened up a little bit, but the overall theme of the ride is fun.

In that case I’m in, and I’m bringing the family, and we’re all doing the Dogwood Figure-8 instead!

J/K...after Big Bear, Cannel, and Wildhorse, I won’t be allowed outside again until next autumn.
