Was wanting to do the Hellacious ride but just didn't have time to do so. At this point in planning, a friend of mine bought a shuttle ticket but she had to cancel. She offered the ticket to me which I accepted and gave to Vince. Thanks Danielle!!! I bought myself a shuttle ticket afterwards. We're in!

Upon arrival we were greeted by @Cyclotourist. Nice to see you David! We would see him later as well playing leapfrog along the trail. After being dropped off at the top from the shuttle bus we ran into some riders we had Flooped with before. It was their first Hell Ride. I offered to escort them as they were in need of some guidance. No problem, we were looking for some others to ride with anyway. Also found @MrGreedom and crew who would join us as well.

Rolled out. As many riders participate on this event, the trail seemed to not be crowded. We cruised through at a nice pace. One in our group would clip her wide bars on that exposed corned with the tree root sticking out. OTB she went. Her bike went tumbling down the ravine. Nothing serious. Hiked down to get her bike and rolled on. MrGreedom and crew would drop back telling us to go on. Good seeing you Ryan! SART is what it is. Endless flowing ST. Soon the Hellacious riders would catch and pass us up. Chatted with them for a moment and then they were gone.

At the Aid Station, Trissy was offering up margaritas. @DangerDirtyD and I would indulge. Saw @burt as well. He was doing another version of a 50 miler.

The Floop crew was starting to drop back. I was getting a little worried that they may not make it. I would mention the bail outs but they said they were committed no matter what. Vince and I were having fun taking it easy and didn't really care about the raffle anyway. As a matter of fact, I realized we never obtained our raffle tickets at the sign in. Oh well (or is it...). Down the Hunting Grounds and Leg 3, everyone made it in one piece. Up Morton in the sun. Felt like we were sweeping the event. Not many riders still out. Some that were still out looked to be passed out on the side.

Final stretch we put the hammer down. We still had time to get to the raffle on time for those in the group who had tickets. Fast flowy ST goodness. Took the ST by the Paul Bunyan too. We made it just in time only to find out the raffle was delayed 30 minutes.

The crew had a great time and offered Vince and I some beers to show their appreciation for leading them through. Awsome! I'll take a double, Vince will have a Root. The pizza lady was feeling generous and gave me a free slice. We're scoring here. But wait, there's more. We found a boat load of raffle tickets on my truck.o_O Apparently @driffter33 and @YzMxer99 couldn't stay and donated their tickets to Vince. These tickets would win some prizes.

What a great day. Thanks BFB for providing such a great event for all to enjoy. Bender would be proud!

This is all hazy, but IIRC, the keys for bike truck #3 went up with truck #2. So #2 had to come back down the hill before #3 could leave.
How were things after everyone got moving?

Ouch @Cyclotourist glad you’re ok. I’ve banged my head into the ground a few times and it ain’t fun. Helmets only protect so much. Take it easy for a while till you’re sure there’s no after effects. Maybe shop for a new helmet too.

That explains why the trail seemed empty behind us.

I apparently wiped out coming down the fire roads leading to Morton Peak. Lost the front end in a sandy patch of ball-bearings over cement type of corner. Rookie move. Pretty sore, but not huge headache at the moment.

Six hours in the ER on a Saturday night. CT is clear, and no work for three days. I remember loading bikes in the morning, and I remember bits and pieces of the ER last night. Everything in between, not so much.

Not only am I missing memories of the Hell Ride (favorite day of the year!), but missed the party @ Hangar, seeing my extended MTB family there, and also missed my friend's Halloween party last night. :-/

So I want to hear about everyone else's ride!!! I'll appropriate those stories for myself!!! Everyone have a good time (presuming you weren't on bus #3)???

That makes more sense as to how we caught up to a lot of the riders this year.

We got rolling an hour earlier.

There was one hard right hander that we all talked about when we hit the bottom... I think @rossage and @Mikie both overshot it- As did I! I wouldn't be surprised if that was the one. That fire road descent beat me up more than all of the single track. o_O

And... Is the bike ok? :whistling:

I remember loading those BH bikes and the Calfee tandem, but not the people associated with them! Funny, huh!
Could have been it... I went down on my right side. Bike seems good! I love seeing it with all the packs on it... looks tough! I'm worried about the crabon fibre bars, and whether I should replace them. Probably so.

I'm sure this was a HUGE bummer for the organizers. You want everything to go perfect for this rolling party you're hosting, and then something like that happens. I hope the riders were okay with it, knowing sometimes things go sideways (like my front wheel!).

To further dominate @Grego's thread, had a follow up today. They did a round of neurological testing, and I guess I passed as they let me go home.
Off work order for the rest of the week means I burn through half my sick leave in one sitting. Guess I'll be watching plenty of movies this next week!!!
