So, it's not really a mountain bike ride report, but we did ride on dirt/gravel roads, and the bike wasn't a full roadie, so I figured it's close enough to share on here.

We just got back from a great 10 days in France and Germany. One of the highlights was a ride from Heidelberg Germany to Ladenburg. We used a local tour guide service to hire Henry and rented the bikes at a local bike shop. The ride was excellent!

Heidelberg is located in Southwestern Germany along the River Neckar and is known for their University which was founded in the 14th century. There was a very cool old town section as well as the ruins of a castle located above the town.

Here's a shot of the castle. We did a tour of the castle on the following day.

Now on to the ride report. Here was my trusty steed for the day. Not quite the same as either of my Treks or my Santa Cruz, but it worked well for the day.

Here was our first stop along the River Neckar. There is a lock system there and we were able to watch a cargo ship being lifted.

    See, there was some gravel......

Here was the cargo ship that was raised in the lock.

Shot of my wife and our tour guide Henry riding on the trail. The route we took closely followed the river and went through a beautiful agriculture area.

So, here we are getting closer to Ladenburg. The ride was only about 8 miles each way, and the pace was mellow with several photo stops along the way.

So, here's Ladenburg. Ladenburg's history dates back to the Roman ages. We were able to see some Roman ruins located there. The coolest part was that this city was far enough off the beaten path that there were no tourists and it was a genuine small old German village.

At the center of every village we saw was a church.

This was supposedly the world's first car garage. It was located outside the prior home of Karl Benz, of Mercedes Benz. He lived in Ladenburg.

Now we're on our way back to Heidelberg after spending 45 minutes or so exploring Ladenburg by foot.

The bike tour was great and one of the highlights of our trip. Would love to go back and either do a long multi-day tour on a roadie or spend a few days exploring some of the mountain bike areas. It was amazing how many people bicycle in France and Germany. Everywhere we went, there were people on bicycles being used as transportation.

Unrelated to the ride, but I had never seen a Peugeot mountain bike before, so I took a quick pic.

My wife got her pictures loaded up. She has a much better camera than my I-phone, and is a much better photographer than I am, so I thought I'd share a few of hers as well.
