Here goes nothin': I pre-ordered one of Black Mountain Cycles' monster cross disc frames this spring. It arrived in July, and I've been building it up over the last month. SRAM Rival 1X11 drivetrain, BB7 brakes cuz' I had some, most of the other parts I had hanging about. I built up some new wheels after first accidentally buying a wheelset that was Boost spacing (still for sale!). I finished it off last night by wrapping the bars and cutting the steerer down a bit. And today after work was the first real ride! Took it for a nine mile spin up in the hills. Mostly road to get there, then some great fun dirt coming back. Pretty much what I intended it to do! When I wear down these tires, I want to put on some WTB Riddler 45c tires. Maybe find a second 27.5 wheelset used and run some 2.25 Thunder Burts or similar for more dirt awesomeness. Lots of options!

So here are the glamour pics from the outing today:

Bike has a great feel to it. A little bit flexier than the Salsa it is replacing, but not as much as the fancy Rivendell that could be built up similar. Definitely in the Goldilocks zone! Bars are too high, and the front end needs a bit more weight/stability. I love that it has thru-axles, which is basically the reason I bought the frame to replace my perfectly good Salsa.

I still need to do some fine tuning, but hopefully will have a good ride on it tomorrow morning!

    I love it!

Right now I have a +10 on, so am looking to get a zero rise. Going to -10 would probably be too much.

I'll cut down the steerer a bit more when I'm 100% sure.
