I have a set of RF SixC with 15mm rise and a set with 20mm.

The short rise are on the SS, while the higher rise is on the Hightower.

I would have preferred 15mm on both, but was fortunately able to move a stem spacer around to compensate for it.

If I could have gone flat....I would have.

For me, the higher the rise, the upsweep and back sweep start to get a little uncomfortable.

Handlebar rise is only part of the formula. Headtube length, spacers, fork length, stem rise etc. also impact how high your hands are. The real question is where are your hands relative to your saddle when your saddle is in full extended climbing mode? Higher than your hips, level or lower than your hips. Please tell me lower.

6'4" - 20 mm of spacers below my 35 mm rise bars. 6.1" Head Tube. 160 mm travel fork on a 29er. And yet, my hands are still lower than my hips in climbing position. Keeps the chest down and elbows out.

Where have you been before? Totally agree with you and thanks! 6'2'' here btw and it's really hard to find a bike with a basic handlebar that would be suitable for you. I've purchased Ritchey's stuff(here are specs) and was pretty sure that it's enough, but it turns out there’s a lot to do and it only works together
    Cheers!

Hey @FairFrank ! Welcome to imtbtrails.
Did you grow up in Oregon? How long have you been riding mountain bikes? Are the trails up there dry enough to ride yet? I have always wanted to ride in Oregon. What trails are your favorite or you would suggest?
    Thanks!

Hi, Mikie. Yes, I did. Honestly, I'm a beginner, I've been riding for 2 years. It's not the best weather atm, but it's up to you as usual. All trails near Bend are magnificent - I'd like to recommend Farewell trail and McKenzie river trail(waterfalls are incredibly beautiful)
    All the best!

Is not wheel size another unit of the formula?

Yes - but who the hell would put something other than the specified wheel size on their bike? Like who would put a 29er wheel on a 27.5 bike?

You’d be surprised how many people actually do that. As a matter of fact my boss changed his gravel/commuter bike from a 29er to 650b.

My point being if we’re going to survey handlebar rise, what type of bike you have it on would matter.

You realize I ride a mullet, right? Thus my sarcasm. I added a 29er to the front of my 27.5 two years ago and haven't looked back.

Not really. It only matters if you go to a bigger or smaller front wheel on the same bike. Otherwise, whether you have a 29er or a 27.5, it's all about the relationship between your saddle height and your hands (when saddle is in your climbing position, of course).

Unless you're saying that a 29er will require less rise for the same rider than a 27.5. Maybe, but that depends on head tube length as well.

I second the McKenzie River trail. It’s a 25 mile beast, but THE most beautiful ride I’ve ever done. Azure pools, waterfalls everywhere, volcanic rocks, bridges. Absolutely gorgeous

    Now back to rise. 20mm
