Halloween hideout

Last time I went trickertreating I was 14 or 15 years old. A little old, but we had a lot of fun spooking the shite out of numerous homeowners. Teenagers...

Now what? No kids, no barroom desire. So I just kind of turn down the lights and hang at home with no candy. I've dodged the tradition for what, twenty years? Can I keep it up, or will some innocent family ruin my streak and actually knock on the door? It's a scary thought. I might get some candy.

Halloween Central around here. We've got a witch on a swing in the tree, another one flying over an archway, scary eyes in a window and a screeching black cat. Orange lights, strobe lights, a flying ghost, a cauldron of candy.. Countdown to craziness-- 10, 9, 8...

 

I got 3 bags of candy, I'll be cycling off the calories from 2.5 of those bags in Nov.

 

As I said in some other thread....it's Halloween and Game 6. Will the little goblins and witches lose out on their candy extortion tonight due to baseball-obsessed parents?

We can only hope.

 

i live a block from halloween central (Oak and Brooks street in Laguna Beach). It was more of a scene ten years ago though.

 

Fortunately we don't have many candy beggars in our neighborhood. We live upstairs and the front door is downstairs....so we keep the light off and the blinds closed.

 

Our first year home and child-free. The 11 y.o. is in Yosemite, 13 wandering with friends, 15 went to a party. So stayed home, handed out candy, installed cabinet doors, and re-did the cable on my dropper with Dodgers in the background. Not too bad a night!

 

Way fewer goblins than last year...I'm convinced the World Series had an impact.

 

I wondered about that. No baseline for us, as we're usually out among them. What was weird was the number of adults/parents that came up for candy. I've never in my life seen that.

 

Same as the last 7 years. Not even one single trick-or-treater. I just don't get it..
Now I have 4 bags of candy to get rid of. I'll take it to work and let everyone else eat it.

 

I'll be trapped, and here I'll have to stay.

I've done no harm, I keep to myself...

 

We had lots o'kiddos in our 'hood a trickin' and a treatin' and then we went down to Oak St which is closed off to traffic. The homeowners for two blocks decorate the hell out of their homes and a large portion of Laguna goes there - house to house, seeing the awesome displays and great costumes, and of course, loading up on candy. It's cool.

Our next door neighbor set a bowl of candy on a stool in her driveway with the note, "Please take only one." Meanwhile, she stayed hunkered down inside watching the game.

 

If you'd just defuse the land mines on the lawn, and turn off the radar-activated machine guns, maybe you'd have some customers.

 

When you're ready to give up on Halloween, remember the kids are alright:

Took the kids out down street to our friends’ house then trick or treated our way back home, and our normally shy and reserved toddler was running to front doors as fast as he could and chatting away with everyone.

Got home and passed out candy. My favorite part is towards the end of night as it’s slowing down when I tell the kids to just grab handfuls. Their eyes bug out and most dig in and are stoked! Little do they know it’s mostly cause I won’t eat the surplus of twizzlers all the kids before them picked over!!

I usually just go for a ride. Did a 30-miler after work tonite. Then taco tuesday!

Not a trickertreeter one!

If you told me this in 1973 I would not have believed you. Nobody wore bike helmets, either.

 

We had at least 30 (wife counts 'em) plus a few more. Kinda normal for the last decade around here. The best part was using last night as a training tool for our dog to quit barking EVERY SINGLE TIME SOMEONE KNOCKS.

By the fourth of fifth group she was staying put. A little treat and then letting people per her - payday!
