They say discretion is the better part of valor and today I used discretion a couple times. This morning I was supposed to go with Mikie & others on an "adventure" ride thru some uncharted territory. After arriving at our first shuttle stop and talking with a few others I realized this ride could very well be an all day adventure and I just couldn't risk being gone all day as we were going to my sons basketball game and having a small surprise party for him afterwards. Wifey was fine with me riding but really wanted me home for his game and party and I just decided not to risk it time wise so I bowed out of the adventure ride.

Since the bike was in the back of the truck and the final staging spot for the group adventure ride was at the Golden Eagle trailhead I decided hit GE solo since I knew I had plenty of time for that. Got to see Mikie for a few and meet several others before that large group ventured off in a completely different direction.

Golden eagle probably isn't the smartest place to ride solo cuz your pretty much in the middle of nowhere and guaranteed not to see anyone else. The climb up the fire road was rough today. The temps were cold, the wind was rippin and the road was mostly wet sand. Once on the singletrack it was a combination of hero dirt, mud and snow.

Lots of new ruts and quite a few downed branches and small trees. Nothing too big though so I was able to clear them all off the trail by hand.

Sections of the trail were quite challenging as the rains have left some ruts and the snow was hiding those ruts.

As I got to the top of the "middle" section there was getting to be more snow than dirt and it was misting pretty good so I decided to play it safe again and turn around. Snow patches made the descent a cruzer instead of the usual bomb fest.

I've always appreciated how beautiful golden eagle trail is but doing a solo cruzer and stopping to take pictures today it really sunk in. The rains have already greened things up a bit and I'm sure it'll be stunning come spring time. Y'all should come get some.

    Yeah VT!!
For as long as you rode time wise today. You may have got as many miles in as we did in our 5 hours. Nice report! I was noticing how green it was in the pics. If we continue to get this kinda rain can you imagine what the wildflowers are going to be like on the fire road climb up???

Wish you could have been with us today! You may not have felt the same ha hah!

    Great pics!
