The title refers more to my crash today than the actual ride. Started off at 7 this morning with my buddy Tony to do a tour of the Simi Hills and take him over and show him Ireland. The usual up and over Albertson, into Cheeseboro which included Palo Comado, Shepherd Flats and Gas Pipe. From there we climbed up Las Virgenes and headed over to the Bell Canyon switchies which leads us to Ireland. Down Ireland and back to Las Virgenes then out to a fire road that takes us back into Cheeseboro. 22 miles in while jamming down the last part of Baleen Wall I was scrubbing some speed knowing that there is usually traffic coming up this blind hill. In doing so I started focusing on a big rut off to the left. I was nowhere near it yet I still found myself going right towards it. Target fixation at its best. It was all I could do to scrub enough speed before I found myself OTB and face planting right into the rut. I honestly think that is the hardest I have ever hit the ground. I had to be going around 25mph. By the time my buddy Tony came upon me I was already sitting up and in a world of hurt. We assessed the situation and decided 911 was not needed so he called his son to come and pick me up. While he was on the phone with his son I stood up and tried to stretch a little bit. In doing so I felt my back crack and that relieved about 50% of whatever was making me hurt. I told him let's just pedal a little bit and if it hurts too much then I will take the ride home. I actually started feeling better as I was riding. My back was tight but it was tolerable. We ended up finishing the planned ride. Considering what happened I want to say it was still a great ride and I got the mileage and elevation I was looking for. I may actually take a day off tomorrow. Haha! Who am I kidding? The first pic is the rut I hit coming down. The second is where my bike landed in relation to me. The third of course is my bike taking a nap.
