GMR to Baldy Village?

After my shortened ride last weekend, I'm looking for a do-over. I created this thread, as we were starting to derail the Santa Ana Mountains thread...

Anyone interested in either Saturday or Sunday? Up Monroe Truck Trail and then the road to Baldy Village (or beyond).

High of 42 in the village on Saturday... That should keep the roadies away!

I talk tough, but I'll be the guy in 12 layers...

 

It was purty cold last weekend - and 42 for the high is colder. Not sure I'll be able to make this coming weekend anyway...it depends on weather and what the wife has planned.

 

I may just bundle up and go for it... balaclava and all! I'm desperate for a ride. Thirty minutes on the stationary bike is torture.

 

Unfortunately I am not well enough equipped with the gear. I don't have a balaclava, I don't have really good cold weather gloves, I have a vest but not a hard shell jacket, and I'd have to remember the shoe covers. Or buy the truly rad Shimano MW81s. Which are more than I'm willing to spend right now.

Hopefully by next winter I'll be outfitted and ready to rock. And then I'll be doing my flat junk miles back and forth to work regardless of weather.

 

We'll forgive your flat roadie miles, but you have to come along on at least three peak ascents.

 

Sure...as long as it's three different peaks on the same ride. Say, Hagador/Pleasance/Modjeska/Santiago. Ooops, that's 4.

 

Hagador, Pleasants and Sierra...

 

4 peaks......Hagador, Pleasants, Sierra Peak, down/up Skyline, then Sierra again, before heading down Blackstar. Now that is proper.

That's only 45 miles! A roadie could do that in under 2 hours!

 

The ride out to Sierra is my favorite part, but for some reason, it doesn't look like fun in that route.

 

It's not easy...that is what makes it fun.

 

I think you weren't overjoyed about Skyline on that ride either, IIRC.

 

Yeah... I was hurting at that point! Skyline isn't the hardest climb, but it gets to me every time. I was relieved when we made the turn towards Sierra Peak.

 

And I have a really tough time with the ride to/from Sierra Peak. Not sure why.

 

It's because you haven't already climbed out to Pleasants and Hagador yet....doing these first makes it easier.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if'n you get lost on GMR/GRR/Village, you gets what you deserves!!

 

Hope your not getting lost out there. Sorry for the late response but still not over this lingering cold and wanted to stay away from the near freezing temperatures. Have fun if your going, if not lets reschedule this when it's a tad warmer. Them 40mph runs are mighty chilly.

 

I was out there... It was not my best day on the bike and I may need a do-over for today's do-over.

I didn't get lost... But I did have 3 flats, one of which was tire shredding.

 

Did you shred the tire on MTT or on GMR?

 

2 flats on Glendora Ridge- one front, one back. The sealant fixed the rear tire, but I had to put a tube in the front. The last flat was coming down lower Monroe.

 

Obviously you made it out alive...what were the stats???
