Just wanted to see if any of the guys going on the Bikerpelli ride in May wanted to carpool or share a cabin at the Moab Resort. Anyone within a reasonable distance from Palmdale is welcomed to ride with me. I have also looked into the cabins at the Moab Resort, they run from $80 to $200 a night. If we split it 3 or 4 ways it doesn't sound too bad. I just want to get the details worked out early because it sounds like they might sell out pretty quick.
Let me know what you guys think or already have planned.

I'm in on both these ideas. Cathy and I have traditionally taken our travel trailer, but she wants to pass this year.

    Cabin:
IN! You want a Cabin. Otherwise, you are camping one more night on the ground in a parking lot scenario, the ground is covered with 3/4" gravel. Bathrooms are a walk and you will hear every single person over hydrated and boozed up stumbling to the bathroom all night long. Plan on no sleep unless you are used to total kaos.
They have Cabins with and without bathrooms. Get one with a bathroom, otherwise you are making the same trek to "the can".
Because we are with the Kokopelli Tribe they wave the two night minimum, so a Saturday Night Cabin is a nice finish to the Epic event. 4+ guys splitting a nice Cabin is a nice first class way to finish up and not that expensive. I'm in. Book one. Bring Ear Plugs.

    Travel Strategy:
There are a couple of options...
If we shuttle together and can figure on two vehicles... We can drop one vehicle in Moab at the end point so we can shuttle ourselves back to Fruita to pick up the other vehicle. The advantage is this:
    • We can leave when we want to on Sunday morning.
    • Your bike will NOT be placed in a Ryder van "sardined" with 90 other bikes potentially rubbing against each for the commute back to Fruita.
    • Also gives us the opportunity to do "extra credit" if we have it in us
If we take one vehicle obviously none of the above apply. But I definitely want to jump on a mutual commute so count me in!

Well I'm definitely going for the cabin the first and last day in Moab. If anyone wants to join just let me know and we can work splitting the price.
Mike - I'm pretty sure my truck can comfortably seat 4 with bikes and gear. I don't have a bike rack for the truck though so the bikes would be hanging on the tailgate. So far it looks like it's just me and you Mike so we'll have plenty of room. Should this be posted in another forum?

I'm not set on plans yet. I will probably go out to Moab several days beforehand to do my extra credit stuff.

Pretty sure that @Voodoo Tom will join us...
Need to find out what @Luis and @Willi-D are doing. Willi-D lives in Palmdale so that should be a no brainer as Dave and I shuttled out to Fruita together the first year I did Kokopelli.
Probably best not to ride with @rossage due to the contact high...:gag:
We have several options to start this off...
    1. We could stay in Moab and drive out to Fruita in the morning, leaving a vehicle in Moab.
    2. Drop a vehicle in Moab and drive on through to Fruita, stay in Fruita in a cheap hotel and then putt over to the trailhead in the morning. That way you only need to rent a cabin Saturday night.
    3. Drive straight on through to Fruita and run the Bikerpelli Shuttle back to Fruita on Sunday morning. Still only needing a cabin for Saturday night.
If we only have one vehicle, I would prefer to drive straight on through to Fruita. I'll bring bubble wrap and tape to wrap my bike for the Ryder Truck "sardined bike" transport back to the trailhead to get our vehicle at the trailhead. That will be about an extra shuttle commute of 1.5 hours to Fruita, then turn around and head back past Moab to home. You can tell I'm not keen on the Ryder/Bus Shuttle... ;)

Yes, I'm down for whatever kind of carpooling and cabin arrangements we can come up with and I'll contribute some coin for both. If need be we can roll in my truck. It's big enough but be warned its not exactly a comfortable freeway flyer but it's an option. You guys are the crazy Koko veterans so I'll follow your lead.

So unless @Luis has his own plans we probably could count on for sure 4 to 5 in one vehicle...
We need to hear from Luis and Dave...

Mikie, I've used this for bike protection, better than bubble wrap as it doesn't pop and just become saran wrap. Conforms to seatstays, toptubes and such very easily, especially fork stanchions.

They do a pretty good job. Alex has a giant trashcan full of foam bits, about 5 or 6 per bike. As they load they pad all the contact points. Works out pretty good.

I won't need bubblewrap cuzz I'm figuring my bike will be complete junk and I'll be sick of riding it by the end of the ride so I'll probably be looking for a ditch to throw it in or a local to sell it to for some beer money...:Roflmao

If anyone wants to skip the sausage fest and get down with steak dinner accomodations and riding, let me know. I will be heading out a few days early (May 1 ?) to check out some new trails, and some old favorites. I will meet up with you guys (not Luis though!) the night before we head out to Grand Junction. This is all subject to change according to wind direction and celestial alignments.

I gotta work Monday Ross or I'd join you for the early show...

I definitely am interested in carpooling, cabin, etc. I'm in Palmdale a block away from P-12 (Highland Highschool). Sorry for the late response!

I waited too long to get a cabin. Now the only one left is the one without a bathroom. I don't think its worth getting a cabin if it doesn't have its own bathroom. Let me know what the kokopelli crew thinks. The cabin will sleep four so if you guys still want to split it I'll reserve it tonight.

If there's room in the cabin then I'll pitch in. Otherwise I'll be so tired I wouldn't wake up if a herd of elephants stampeded to the bathroom. Earplugs are a must no matter where u sleep. Even in the cabin you got Snoring and farting .. Trust me on this
I can drive up there if needed but can only fit one other rider and bike besides me.

Okay guys I have a camping cabin reserved for the last night at the Moab RV park. It's just a queen bed and two bunk beds (the only option left). It beats sleeping on the ground I guess and it does have A/C if it's hot out. So that means there's room for two or three more if someone wants to share a queen bed...

So it smells like the sausage fest is grilling up like brats at a Brewers game....

My plan is to leave here on April 30, o-dark thirty.
Drive to Virgin (he he he), ride Hurricane rim. Camping courtesy of BLM Hilton.
May 1, Drive to Moab. Ride Slickrock, because thats what I do when I first get to Moab. Camping at Dead Horse Point or maybe just BLM Hilton
May 2, New stuff around Moab

Here's where things get fuzzy but the next two days will probably be spent near Fruita, possibly including a rest/hiking day. Camping at BLM Hilton.

May 5, you guys know where I'll be at 8:30am-probably sleeping in the lot!

Got room for one in the truck. Be prepared to be thoroughly vetted...

Your late to the party... I've been obsessing since June of last year. :Do_O

Something strange happens to you on this ride... you'll find your self craving it, daydreaming about it, dreaming about it, telling everyone you know about it and just generally in a funk when it's over. I dare anyone to ride it and not walk away changed in some way.

Ha Ha! You're right! I've actually been obsessing for weeks!!!! The first step is admitting you have a problem...or is it a problem?

After perusing, then reading, then deep reading, and actual studying, I am convinced this guy Alex and his troops got me covered for the Koko part. I'm worried about what my crazy ass is going to get into in Moab/Fruita before I even get to Kokopelli.
