G’day!

Hi everybody,

I’m new to the forum and new to the US. I moved to Tustin from Perth, Australia
I joined this forum so I can experience what the nature in Southern California has to offer, while making friends along the way ☺️

I have never rode trails or mountain bikes on a serious level before. I grew up racing BMX and motocross.
Now I would like get back on two wheels and learn something new and fascinating!

I’m available to meetup for trail rides around Orange County anytime during the week (depending on work commitments).

Welcome, looks like you’re in Tustin so not far from Santiago Oaks which is a fun park to ride in. I might be heading there after work tomorrow but I’ve been really sick and this would be my first ride back since. I’d be happy to ride with you there soon though.

Welcome @Ozzie from one west coast to another. With BMX and MX in your background, you will LOVE the DH aspect of mt biking.

The DH side of it definitely interests me. Maybe this new hobby could eventually turn into a sickness.

There aren’t any mountains or big hills around Perth, so I’m excited to be in OC with so many great trails.

The biking community in California appears quite healthy!

 

It's a sickness, that's for sure. You should get into climbing instead.

Perth was one of my favorite places to stop in and take a break from all that ocean. Welcome aboard!!!

 

Isn't Sam Hill from Perth? He's pretty good on a mt. bike, I hear.

But it says he’s from Viveash, which is only 10 minutes drive from where I’m from in Perth

I was there three times, courtesy of the US Navy. Found the greatest steakhouse on the planet in Fremantle, and then couldn't find it again. The people there are amazingly friendly, and the city and its suburbs are some of the nicest I've ever seen.

Gotta share this one, though: Once, heading past Hungry Jack's (Australian Burger King for you SoCal peeps) somewhere in Perth, this woman told me to "Go home, we don't want you here." I told her I would, but I had to wait for that big gray boat in the harbor to leave. That was the only negative encounter I ever had there.

EDIT: And the basement pubs I found in Thornlie were a trip. We stayed away from the rest of the sailors; I managed to catch a high school Australian rules football game and played darts in said pub. Couldn't buy our own beer. Lost miserably at darts, too.

 

It does if you turn it sideways.

 

@Ozzie welcome x3! To the USA. To SoCal. & to ImtbTrails!!! Get the bike dialed, get pedaling and get the sickness.

Besides lots of trails in this area. There are also a handful of MX tracks within an hour or so. Just in case you need to get your roost on!

Very cool! I’ve actually met a few ex serviceman here that spent time docked in Fremantle. I’m sorry you were verbally abused outside hungry jacks haha (that restaurant in Freo is the epicenter for verbal and physical abuse unfortunately)!

Welcome. In Tustin, you are pretty centered in the OC places to ride. You’re a newb, so I probably won’t ride with you, but I’m in Orange and spend a lot of time at Santiago Oaks as well as out in the Santa Ana Mountains.

Lots of good guys here. Lots of good information here. Lots of experience here.

This is a community...which means it relies on your participation. Ride lots and post lots.

It's ok to be a newb. Personally I love them... They make me look better.

If you haven't already, take a look at the "I rode my bike" thread. It's full of short reports, a lot of which are in the OC. For example, our Maple - Motorway loop last night in the mountains.
