Time to replace my DHF front (29er size 2.5)... LOVE the tire but can feel the weight. Also i know its overkill for 90% of the local rides in So Cal.

Had an Ardent on the front last time... didn't like how it went into fire road corners at speed. All other trail sections it seemed fine.

My riding style is an average climber just to get to the downhill... downhill i just close my eyes and point. Wake up at the bottom... sooo much fun :geek:

What are you all running on the front for our local trails? I'm running an Agressor on the rear. Got my Jenson bday gift card ready!

Ditch the 2.5 and go to a 2.3 DHF

Been bombing on 2.4 Maxxis Rekon. Climbs well. Just swapped it out for a 2.6 Rekon. Still liking it with a 2.4 Rekon on the back!

As you can see in my photo, went with the 2.4 Rekon in the rear, and 2.3 DHF in front.

The Rekon is a solid SoCal tire. I run the 2.4 f/r on one wheelset. Currently running Specialized 2.6 Ground Control Grid on the Fuse,:thumbsup:

I’ve tried the 2.5 DHF on two different bikes and it wasn’t for me either.

Gotta agree with others the 2.4 Rekon is a pretty solid tire. Rolls great, grips good especially when fresh and has proven to be plenty durable. Doesn’t measure 2.4 though, more like 2.3 ish. That being said I just mounted a 2.6 Rekon and inflated it to max psi for a couple days and it looks like a damn monster truck. I rode for a good amount of time on 27.5 x 2.8 and now I keep searching for that same get out of jail free card those provide.

I’ve also had good luck with the 2.35 Hans Dampf in the past. Rolls good, measures bigger than advertised and I never had a problem with killing em.

IME wider is not better for our loose over hard pack conditions. My 2.5WT DHF/Aggressor combo seems to just float across the top and are rather skittish whereas my skinny 2.25 Goodyears cut through and stick. I think J's 2.3 DHF recommendation would be best for you since that's the tire you are running already.

I am currently running a 2.30 Aggressors on the Kona and a Bonty 2.40 XR4 on the Devinci. I would say the xR4 is a faster and lighter version of a Minion. I have a Minion that only gets used in Winter when it’s the fastest in my local conditions, which is 3-4 months out of the year.

I'll stick with my 2.4 Ardent EXO TR up front. It's served me well.

I’m not a good-enough rider to go less than 2.5 Minion DHF up front.
