Maaaaaan! I JUST blew my rear shock! Oil everywhere. Looks like its coming out of the blue damping adjuster lever. Details and pics when I get home.

What happened? Were you descending with it locked out?

Negative. Just got home and pulled the shock. Was out at P12 on Monday just spinning pedals and took a swig from my water bottle and it tasted ....oily. Thought it weird and rode on. Got home that night and saw oil on the bike. I thought it was so hot in Palmdale in the job parking lot, that I thought it may have heated up some grease on the pivots and it leaked a bit. Took it for a ride tonight and it just drained oil out of the Open Mode Adjust lever. I usually ride in the medium setting. I do Remember moving to the Open setting and it felt a little funny. I’m thinking maybe an O Ring?
I’m not sure it’s something I can do myself?

Sorry to hear. If you were down here, I could send you to shop who would fix it lickety split. Hopefully, it won't keep you off the bike long. I know you haven't had any time to ride recently.

Do you have a spare shock? Maybe I'm the only one who always has a spare fork and shock for my bike, without actually having a backup bike. Very little down time that way.

    From Vince at JRA:

If it's leaking fluid from the blue or red damper levers, it has to go back to Fox. About a $145 repair and their turn around time is slow right now. Probably 10 days in house.

Maybe @herzalot can hook you up?

My suggestion would be call Fadi and see what he says. Wouldn’t be surprised if he can fix it. My other suggestion would be to borrow the shock off your buddy’s mango Hightower and make him ride his Ripley while your shock is being repaired.

Hmmmm, Hightower shock is 200mm length by 51mm stroke. My shocks are 200mm by 57mm stroke. If the eye-to-eye is the same, does the stroke matter? I guess the HT would bottom out against the frame with too much stroke. Paging Varaxis!

If someone can confirm the fit, @Mikie could borrow my freshly rebuilt DVO Topaz or my freshly rebuilt Cane Creek DB IL while he awaits a warranty repair.

Hey now let’s not get all warm & fuzzy about this:confused:. Now that I think about it I’ll just go steal the shock off the “hijacked Hightower” or maybe just take the whole damn bike and show it some more love.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune @Mikie. Clearly it's a warranty issue but if you can get it fixed quick by somebody here in So Cal, it might be worth paying for it unless the repairman can do Fox's warranty work for them. Kinda sorta what the guys here have already said here but all combined.

I’m surprised no one yet suggested a new Bike!

Some people have a spare shock or suspension fork, I keep a spare bike around.
That's how I ended up riding hard tails again. I had to keep 2 rear shocks in rotation just to keep my Yeti 575 on the trails. The hard tail was intended as a back-up.
    The hard tail took over.

    Good luck!

Too bad we can't keep spare clavicles in the closet because those seem to get broken a lot by us cyclists.

Sounds like the only real and permanent fix for his predicament is to buy a Chameleon.

You all are silly men! :p
...And a huge thanks to all the offers. Sincerely!
I do have a back up bike and NO it does  NOT have a battery. I have my Ole Yeti that I love dearly. As well, I think the shock on it will fit the Hightower. Gonna check tonight. Plan is to text Fadi as soon as I get out of my no cell work zone and see if he can get it warrantied.

In addition, HUGE Kudos to Santa Cruz for making the shock removal a (2) bolts with (1) Allen Key (even the same size Allen key) process! Off the bike in less than 3 minutes!!!

    OBTW...
My new position with NGC is AWESOME! I'm going to get some serious ride time in this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (<--Repeat exclamation points in your own minds as long as you want... )
