OK, it is the free zone! Anyone here know how to stop all videos from auto playing when going to websites?:mad::mad::mad:
So far what I do is immediately close the site and try not to go back to that site. needless to say, my list of websites is nearing zero that I'm willing to visit.
Luckily @Mikie at iMtbTrails doesn't do that, so it is on the top of my visit list!
I'm willing to pay for a program that will block them...and that's something for me!

Maybe I should just take up playing bridge at the senior center and forget all this new fangled electronic stuff. o_O( Not..)

Have you tried reading the Register or LA Times online lately? Nearly impossible!

Even here, I have certain ads that auto-play (and no, they are not porn related) under the Jenson banner and at the bottom of the page. They don't play completely - so I don't know what they are advertising. I can't click on them, nor turn them off. When running, those random ads prevent me from typing for some reason. I believe it is a conspiracy of all other IMTBers to finally rein me in.

    Good luck with that!

Auto play videos drive me crazy too. Not sure what it is but I'd rather read an article than watch a vid.

I came across a plugin a while ago that is meant to disable the auto play. When I get back to a computer I'll try to find it again and post it up

Yep, in setting it disables flash but nothing else, so most videos just play. And god forbid you want to watch ONE video then all videos play from then on.
SO annoying, I'd rather read an article and listen to my music, and I think most of us agree.

I have no problem with iMtbtrails, but yahoo, LA times, NY times and a;most all other sites are worthless.
Now if I want to shop for something on Amazon or Jenson, no problem. No videos there!
I'm so going to find an answer to this or take up knitting..... o_O

That plugin I had found reference to is called NoScript. Looks like it only works for Firefox, and it blocks websites from running any scripts, which is how it stops vids from auto-playing. Quick google search says it does not have a version for Chrome, but maybe there is an alternative that would perform the same function. Let us know if you can get it to work, I've never had time to try.

What operating system and browser are you using?

On a Mac/Safari, there are ClickToPlugIn and ClickToFlash extensions. They block a lot and you can add sites that you want to play video, like YouTube.

AdBlock extension also lets you add good and bad sites to filter.

Ghostery is another extension to look into.

They all seems to block a little differently so see what suits you. I noticed Ghostery blocks reviews/comments on many sites. It's easy to click on and off though.

There is a paid program called Little Snitch that lets you track all the background activity and restrict it. Some of the news sites will load over 70 different URLs in the background from different companies and different countries as well.

    edit:

This is more extreme but it works on Safai 10. It messes up YouTube a bit though.
