Talking with Fran last night we could not agree on a ride this morning . I sent him a text in the morning and the stars aligned . He said Explo and I said Yahaaaa! We started up the road hit the campsite 6 single track and up to the lookout we went. Took a short break and I actually got Fran to climb the ladder up to the tower. See Fran is afraid of heights. I told him I would lead so he could fall on me it he frieked! all went good. We signed the log book , chatted with the volunteers then climbed back down and Hit the trail. Soo nice. All good no mechanicals or crashes. A little over 13 miles and 2300 elevation. You rock Superman! We hit The Jensens deli for grub and dessert. Yummy! Sorry Rossage last minute run.

Yeah the stars aligned and the weather pretty good too!! Keller peak tower is great place to check out. Great views and the volunteers had lots of information.
Great trail if you've never ridden it. New to me trail on the climb up, great ST/ some fire road and good alternative to the road climb. Tom was handling his Niner with ease, making it look easy. Aaaaand you can see his wardrobe totally matched....even to his SUV!!! He is the standard when it comes to trail attire!!
    TTB is the real Superman!!:)

    And was anyone camped there??

On our climb up Exploration trail last month we ran into a guy that told us about Yellow Post site 6, said it was better than the full road climb and easier than climbing the trail itself. Said it was a nice singletrack.

Can't comment on climbing the trail itself The camp 6 ST is nice scenic The last part is fire road and short steep sections that will get your attention. I don't like climbing fire roads but overall better than the road climb

Great ride and report guys! Tom the Bomb even broke out the matching maroon doo-rag! What a trend setter! I love the Jenson's deli in Wrightwood! Thanks for the post!

I usually climb the trail proper. (Well, not proper...that adjective evokes a riding dress and side saddle and fox hounds....). Totes rideable, for some, I assume. I end up doing a little hab on the lower chunkier section, but gives me a chance to scour all the changing lines for the way back down :devilish:.

Great bang for buck on that trail, IMHO!

(Just noticed the iPhone autocorrect of scout to scour...Steve Job’s ghost is mischievous!)

If you have the time, climbing Exploration is a blast! I definitely HAB through parts of it, but still a lot of fun!

True, save that for the downhill. But I really do like the climb. the technical features are challenging, and I love the spots where you can stop and take in the views. 100% recommended!

Yes climbing Explo is one tough chore but the challenging sections are definitely satisfying when you clean them.

    I've pedaled up exactly twice...

I'll do it again at some point...for a goal. But I prefer to take the road up and just cruise. Enjoy the DH to the fullest.

You should try the camp 6 ST climb, better than the road climb

There are yellow post camp sites along the road leading to Keller Peak and Expo trailhead. At post #6 campsite, there is a trail leads you up a dirt route up to the lake and the Children's Forest area. More fun than the road!

The way I am reading it...this trail doesn't actually take you to Exploration though?
