haha.. nothing to do with pandemic..Covid sucks.. but now more time to ride.
Almost at 200k of elevation for the year.. I usually hit 200k in December if that... but been
riding so much more since March..

every year my goal is 200k of elevation.. now at 187k..
a friend of mine had goal of 1million k elevation.. (leadville training..)

What are your riding goals for the year??

    Gonna kicking back into gear.

    Hoping for 600k’

if you ride a lot, the elevation numbers go up...simple math.

I was off to a great start until the pandemic hit in March. 60 plus hour workweeks and a bout with shingles really cut into my ride time. It was hard to get motivated on the weekends. I've still managed to get 342k of elevation so far. I've been over 500k the last few years. We'll see how much riding I get in before peak season hits.

Covid definitely helped my numbers. My paltry 100k (and change) basically matches my total for all of last year (which was also truncated on both ends due to injury), even though I didn't get on the bike until April, and not in earnest until May. I'm eying longer rides, so I'm shooting for 250K before it's all said and done.

    3 or 4 rides a week...2500-3000’ per ride.

No, riding the Floop multiple times a week isn’t going to pad your numbers.

I've been riding a lot more often, and feeling pretty good too.
My goal is to keep riding and having fun at it.

Never been one to count the cumulative elevation or mileage, so it could be more or less than it was before of after. But probably more now thats it during instead of before.

I’m still under 50k for 2020 from 367 miles. But I also get to talk a lot of nonsense about bikes and other gobbledygook here. I’m getting by and plan to ramp up before October.

You guys obsess with Strava numbers! :stop: :whistling:

Well... If you must know, I'm down about 100,000 feet from last year at this time (280,000 versus 380,000). January and February started off ok, and I was ahead of 2019. Then my riding went into the tank. Covid, selling a house, moving, apartment life, moving into a new house, etc... I broke 600,000 last year for the first time, but will be happy with whatever I hit this year... 450 maybe? 500? Who knows... I do have some big loops in mind once the weather breaks, but we shall see. Strawberry from home?

    But...

On a non-numbers note, I really couldn't be happier with the riding up here, and I've only scratched the surface. @DangerDirtyD asked me out at Hillyer if I thought my riding was getting better. I assume he meant on the technical stuff... That is a definite and emphatic "YES". All the rocks, drops and exposure up here will either force you to stay on the easy stuff or learn to ride the harder stuff. I'm being methodical on purpose and trying to clean a little more each time... It's a riot, and I don't think I'm going to run out of features up here to practice on.

My frequency shot up a lot, with Funemployment- since late March.
Will see how it goes, I'm averaging 15hrs a week now, but a lot of it is casual (for me) miles, with my girl.
I think I could pretty easily hit a million ft, if I focused a bit.
What's the point of goals, while temporarily retired. :p

@konakc, it sure does seem to be about the pandemic... :geek:

My workflow was hit hard due to covid months ago and has recently started to claw its way out. But not before I was able to get in top riding shape with the simplespeed and an encouraging spouse. I'm hopeless at keeping a tally of specs, but for sure I'm doing rides that were beyond me the last two years of hammering as hard as I could around Tahoe. Good fallout from a bad situation – I'll take what I can get. :speechless::)

Have fun, not get injured. Ride the SoCal Crescent. Badwater-Whitney. PCE SuperEpic. If I can get one or two of those rides I'll be ecstatic.

Ed, with the craziness you've been dealing with at work for the past few months, I'd say that peak season is already here and basically permanent for the time being. The only good thing about this is that it may speed up your retirement date.

Agreed. I don’t give a fart about setting goals...having fun on the other hand..I’m all about that!!
And fun isn’t always “fun”, suffering is another name for “fun” IMO. I just don’t like worrying over numbers, that’s too much work:D

Again, that's not an accomplishment. For me, it's called a ride. Why that entices you so much I don't know. It's like dunking a basketball on an 8 ft rim playing against 5th graders. I can understand that desire to "cripple with cramps" a man who boasts about his accomplishments or routinely puts up big numbers. But I guess you enjoy a non-challenge challenge.

Perhaps you should consult a specialist as to why you continually use that imagery and language to "slay" an admittedly weak target.

Nope and nope. But thanks. I can go fast over chunk in a straight line if I know the trail, and I do enjoy drops up to 4 feet or so. That's about it. Put me on a narrow, gravelly, outsloped DH like San Juan, Golden Eagle, Hahn or Lower Holy Jim and I just scoot along at a comfortable pace, holding up other riders. Put me on a bike park jump trail and I turn every table top into two little jumps - a jump onto the table and a jump off.

And climber? Bottom five on this forum. Proven over and over again. Ask my last riding partners @mountaingirl sara, @buggravy and @Obsidian - or the ones just before that - @bvader @Bill @rossage or @Danimal Thus my surprise at your continuing obsession with "rip your legs off' and "cripple you with cramps." Most of the people on this forum have already done that just by virtue of me joining their rides or vice versa. But hey - if the thought of picking low hanging fruit amuses you, carry on!

you all are much more avid than I am. If can handle >3k feet in a day, get to know the local haunts, and get a couple of longer rides in, I'll be a happy camper.
What apps are people using to track rides? I used mtbproject a couple times, but it seems to cut out, hasn't tracked a complete ride yet. Maybe it's my cheap chinese phone...

I think almost everyone is using STRAVA that tracks their rides here. I use it for a while then get over it and no longer track anything, so for me less than 50% of rides recorded as it starts bugging me for different reasons. Then there is @herzalot who has not and don't expect to ever use STRAVA. Which is probably a good thing, don't need him tweaking on his stats..

Anyway, STRAVA is a pretty good app, so I say go for it!

My rides are shorter than most on here. I'm happy with 20 miles and 3k elev as a longer good size Mtb ride. Pretty sure my max was around 28 miles and 4100, which definitely pushed my limits. Ride, have fun, that's what I do. It's not about the mileage but the Smileage!
