That's not even an "e-bike". It's an electric motorcycle, which we've started to see here and there on the trails. I ran into one on the Lower Gabrielino earlier this year.

That's what the E-bikers are saying in the comments, indicating that the thing that scoundrel was riding is not the same as the bicycles that MTBers and E-MTBers ride out there. Slippery slope in 3...2...1...

I said from day one over at MTBR that this was the next progression from ebikes....which are actually mopeds anyway.

There is some pretty good video footage of that idiot's face. Someone will recognize him and turn him in. Shouldn't take long.

Fleeing the scene on video is only going to make it worse for the idiot.:facepalm:

If I had to guess, I'd say it doesn't matter one bit whether imtb-ers or reddit-ers know that it's not an ebike. Those that make "ban" types of decisions are too often uninterested in distinctions like that, esp. if enough people are pointing and yelling "See! See! Ban them all!" Slippery slope indeed. I suspect many people (most?) would agree that ******* needs to be prosecuted for something - maybe hit-and-run. But how many would also jump on the "something oughta be done"/"there oughta be a law" bandwagon out of some misplaced fear of risk in general combined with a self-righteous attitude? Ugh. I'm not arguing there should be no restrictions - nor do I want all electrified bicycles banned outright. I hope there will be thoughtful differentiation in the laws and enforcement. But I'm a pessimist about such things.

E-bikes are for groceries; the rest are various types of motorcycles.

Reflecting. I agree that this should not lead to a ban. The e-moto rider should be charged with fleeing the scene, and if he was riding in a posted closed zone for e-motos, then he should be fined AND he should be responsible to cover the medical bills of the other rider involved.

time to eliminate all wheeled vehicles from the trails. They create global warming > tornado's > shop lifting >. Now the only ones out will be poachers> so triple D and me will not be alone anymore > Remember to turn off your lights before you get close to the trail head

Ran into a couple of guys on these in Laguna a couple of months ago…luckily the rangers were on it quickly. Seems like there’s a lot of E-bike supporters trying to make themselves seem like the good guys by calling this guy out.

I have nothing inherently against e-bikes, but anything with assist doesn’t belong on our normal trails. I don’t ride SCST anymore because they have no restrictions and it’s turned into an Ebike park. It’s a slippery slope to allow any of it. This stuff is going to continue to happen, and I understand there are people who use good judgment and ride them safely, but that doesn’t mean having them on the trails doesn’t pose a significant risk. I’m sure I am biased, but it feels like the amount of negative interactions I have had with them has increased monthly….life’s not fair, pedal your bike

Uggh, was just a matter of time. I see these e-motos at SCST all the time, in addition to the occasional gas powered dirt bike.

I tried several times to embed the video but it has it's own format.
We need to get that guy pasted everywhere so he is identified. Hit and run no matter what you are riding is just wrong...
I really want to know if he is caught.
    Who is this guy?

    Still operating in self-interest mode.

It makes perfect sense this would happen in the nation’s epicenter of entitlement and convenience. The more time you spend elsewhere, the more you realize what a shitty place to live and recreate that SoCal is. Good luck.

This is the conversation I usually avoid as an outsider. I've formed way too many opinions about Californians. :whistling:

Although I will say that having lived in two areas where outdoor recreation on two wheels was nigh impossible, I'll gladly take what California has to offer. I could do with fewer discarded Starbucks cups, though...

Yes, it could happen anywhere. But it didn't.:geek: Josh, I agree that ass-hole drivers are everywhere – especially in cities. But I stand by my 30 years of experiencing steady decline in decorum in SoCal, manifesting today in the worst rash of regulation flouters and me-firsters fukking up the trail experience and trails than at any of my time there. SoCal has a lot of great trails and beautiful areas. Just too many people, and too many of them inconsiderate, entitled and lazy.

Back to that one as$hole, now...

Still not verified, but on the Pinkbike thread, they just named him... And his business.

Although the person who posted it spelled the alleged *******'s name wrong... Spelling counts, People. :D

The name is spelled wrong. It's a "d", not a "t" in his last name.

I didn't post the name, because it's not verified. The person who posted it on Pink Bike
"heard from some locals". He didn't even know enough to dig in, or to verify the spelling...
