Crap - just when it was beginning to rebound from the last one. I think I heard they had someone in custody for starting it.

One person detained for possible arson.

Weatherman says it could have also been started by lightning strikes.

slightly different area, west of the 2013 Mountain fire. Near Hellrazor trail. Could spread to the old fire area though.
    I hate fires.

Dang, the guy who was arrested was seen throwing flares out the window of his vehicle as he was driving along. Ummm, yeah, he might be just a little bit guilty.

That sucks. The only good news is there is good fire road access in the area of the HUB trails. They'll be throwing everything they can at it to stop it before it gets to the houses in town. Hopefully that happens before a bunch of the trail system burns.

It is infuriating this was caused by utter stupidity. It seems like people get off with a slap on the wrist for starting fires like this. OK, give him a massive fine that amounts to a slap on the wrist because everyone knows he'll barely pay a cent of it - lots of these people have nothing to pay. How about some serious jail time? Or years worth of community service. Or both....

How about life in a mental asylum? I can not fathom the vast amount of wildlife killed, which I’m willing to consider murder. The sickness of an individual to harm animals we are suppose to be good stewards over, the risk of lives and sometimes death of firefighters or innocent residents, the loss of homes, both from fire and mud slides to come.
If one person dies from this I have absolutely no issue with the death penalty.

I was thinking a fate worse than our civilized "death penalty" for the guy if he is found to be guilty.

    Fight fire with fire?

Uncivilized...and I wouldn't want us as a society to stoop to that level of incivility and cruelty, but it does stand to reason.

    Interesting.
Let’s talk a bit. Penalties for crimes against society...
Why do we have them? I gathered it was to forwarn potential offenders of the future, to dare not act out such a violation. What if the penalty is considered acceptable to a perpetrator? Worth the risk? Then what?
I look at our jail system now and figure that the penalty for the crime committed apparently is not steep enough to prevent the crime. Some criminals look at it as time off, 3 hot and a cot, time served and then go back to what they did before. What rehabilitation is that?
I don’t know if it’s true but I heard rumor there are countries that cut a hand off of thieves, is that true? If true, what’s the theft crime rate in that country?
Make the penalty severe enough and crimes may reduce. Does anyone want or accept crime? I say make the crime for arson that will stop arson, what ever it takes.
Just me thinking out loud!

A while back I read that the Mountain fire in Idyllwild a few years ago was caused by an electrical fault at a ranch owned by a Saudi who had some sort of connection to the royal family there. They all but blamed it on negligence yet this person apparently faced no consequences. Trying to find any details on the investigation is almost impossible. Similarly the Chariot fire that almost burned down Mt laguna that same year was caused by a BLM employee who drove through an area of brush which ignited after some of it got caught on the underside of the jeep. There were a number of conflicting stories that came out about what actually happened and the employee in question seemed to disappear. Again it's hard to find any official results of the investigation and I've never heard a confirmed account of what happened to the employee. Fired? Re-assigned? Went into hiding? Its like the agencies want to bury it so it never sees the light of day.
