Hah, I was joking, too. :D

No matter how rad you ride or don’t, the experiences off the blacktop can be zen. A trans-con ride on pavement could be fun tho...

So much dirt mileage on the Divide, that pavement can be novel and blissful. Times two on the CO trail. Imagine feasting on so much dirt for days that you giggle inside when you hit the blacktop. Blacktop leads to stuff like stores, eateries and laundromats. And that same blacktop takes you back out into the dirt. So I’m cool with blacktop. : )

But hardcore, you find them in every athletic pursuit.

Prayer machine was cranked up when I first heard this news, but I'm gonna throw the surgeon, anesthesiologist, nurses and candy stripers into the prayer machine this time!

(I know there are no more candy stripers. Probably just strippers named Candy.)

Sadly far too true. I can't recall the last time I heard of anyone dying while mountain biking. I hear of people getting killed while road-biking every couple of weeks. In California it averages a little more than two per week.

More biking fatalities in the Netherlands than car fatalities

Kudos again for your positive perspective in the face of bad news. As I mentioned before, but it bears repeating, your take on your own injury and approach to the down time was helpful to me when I was struggling in the early stages of recovery. Glad to hear that it's at least happening sooner than later. I hope to find myself in a group ride with you shortly after you're back, so that I actually stand a small chance of keeping up.

Thankful that my surgeon got me in so quickly, I’m ready to get this done!
Group ride for sure, I’m shooting for July, but will be patient if more time is needed:thumbsup:

Just note that mountain bikers who also go roadie get more than twice the fun. The idea that roadie-ing is overly dangerous is not consistent with reality. It's all in where and how you do it. ;)

Not consistent with reality? I'm pretty sure it's the most lethal recreational activity allowed by law.
