Been chasing a creak on Vince's bike lately. Isolated the creak by placing the steerer tube in a vice and forcing the legs back and forth. Snap, crackle, pop clearly coming from the crown. Most likely the steerer tube connection but possibly where the stantion(s) connect. Close call. Keep riding? new fork? new bike? or look into crown repair? Currently on a Pike 160 but he really needs a duel crown the way he rides imo.

Would a crown repair not be as much or close to the cost of a new fork? Maybe buy new uppers?

And to double check, maybe mount the fork on a different frame with a different headset and see if you can duplicate the creak?

    How old is the fork?

2 years or newer....I'd submit a warranty claim. Over 2 years.....RS is gonna say wear and tear.

You could always do a new CSU but I find that you end up with a lot of slop. The bushings in the lowers seem to wear with the uppers. Replacing one with a lot of miles usually leads to play in the bushings. Not to mention a new CSU will run you upwards of $300....you might be able to find a new Pike or Lyrik on blowout somewhere.

Obviously creaking means it is moving. With how softly Trailslayer rides....I'd recommend replacement.
