I’ve been riding flats for years and have been wanting to give clipless a shot but I’m having trouble finding a shoe that is a little on the wider side. I wear size 10e dress shoes (Allen Edmond) but I’ve upsized my 5.10 flat shoes to size 11 as that gives me the correct amount of room in the toe box. I have a pair of the original Shimano ME7’s but I don’t ever wear them because my feet/toes start aching from the toe box being narrow.

I’m new to the clipless world, so perhaps all shoes are close to the same, but if not, I would also prefer one that allows the cleat placement further back from the front of the foot.

Some companies make “high-volume” (HV). I’ve read that is kind of a cheap workaround that will fit high volume feet and will better fit wider feet though the footbed is still the narrow size so it’s not ideal. (I tried the new Shimano ME7’s which are supposedly HV but they were still about the same level of narrowness.

    Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Lake makes a wide and I believe an extra wide cycling shoe.

Ha, no such luck... I just do the same as @kdiff mentioned and size up. The newer Adidas-branded Five Ten shoes do run more to actual size, but are still narrow.

I have the Pearl Izumi Alp X Elevate (what a name!) and they have a lot of room up front. I can wiggle my toes freely, and thick socks are not a problem.

I have those same shoes, and can attest to the larger toe box. That's the shoe I reach for when I need to wear heavier socks, or multiple pair in the winter.
We used to have the Pearl outlet in San Clemente, but they went out of business. At the time, they said the closest was now in Gilroy. Need some garlic?

I liked my Pearl Alp Xs as well ...solid shoe.

Spesh shoes can have a good toeb we / I were just talking about the 2FOs in another thread.

I like a wider toebox and I put in inserts like super feet so I buy a whole size up in most shoes

I'm sorry about your narrow foot. Real men wear 4E.

Yeah, the PIs are pretty good, you may need to size up a bit. I have a pair for days at the bike park or any ride where there might be a lot of HAB. When and if you get ready for a more hardcore cycling shoe, Lake makes a pretty wide shoe, but Lake can be tough to find. And they seem to discontinue a shoe months before releasing the updated one. The absolute best I've found is the Sidi Megas, which I'm using on both MTB and road. Pricey, but IMO worth it.

I wear an 11.5E in AE dress shoes. I've had two pairs of the Shimano MT series (the 3 or 5 I think), full lace version. Plenty wide for me, but ymmv.

 an e is hard enough, I would have given up with 4e.

As far as length, are the Sidi’s pretty accurate? Which MTB and road are you using?
