I just saw this on Facebook ... I have no idea what the circumstaces are, but if you know this dude, tell him to call the CHP. We do not need this sort of negative pub.

"We are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the man in the photos. On Saturday, April 28th, at approximately 11:00 a.m., the male mountain biker was involved in an injury incident involving a 55 year old male hiker on Bommer Ridge Road in Laguna Coast Wilderness Park.

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP – Capistrano office at (949) 487-4000 or CHP 24hr dispatch line at (949) 784-6700."

Don't know him, but he's full Enduro. Fender, water bottle, thick electrical tape, GoPro/Light mount on helmet, knee pads with no elbow pads, chainguide - definitely ticks all the boxes of a seasoned rider who rides the tough stuff. Definitely local. Sorry to hear he injured somebody and rode off. Both uncool.

Exactly. I am not calling for anyone to rat the dude out. There are two sides to every story. If you know him, have him get in contact.

Wouldn't leaving the scene of a collision where there is an injured person, even if not in a car, be a crime?

Wonder where they got the photos? You would think who ever took and posted them would know the guy.

I think it’s under City of Irvine jurisdiction. I’m not sure why the CHP got involved unless the Irvine Ranch rangers were busy and CHP was available through mutual aid agreement.

    Feel bad for the hiker.

I wonder what happened.. I hate to think that a fellow mtbker would crash into a hiker who became unconscious and then just leave.. something don't smell right... CHP left b/c they determined it was on dirt, not road and they did not think a crime was committed...

Sounds like it might not be simply a crash.... maybe some words or threats were there? Could have been a physical altercation.. or any other manner of things. Interesting to know the full story...

First off let's get one thing strairght.... as @herzalot said "he's full enduro". I disagree, no goggles and no pack.

Of less importance... if the CHP declined to take a report, why do the photos of the perp have the CHP logo and the CHP phone # to contact?

There are two contradicting stories here. The pics here with CHP plastered on them. Then the link above that says CHP did not get involved because it was on dirt and there was no crime committed.
It shouldn't be too hard to find this guy if they really want to. I guarantee he's on Strava. Not many people ride Commencal. They are fairly new to the U.S.

I hope the hiker is ok, but let's not jump to all kinds of conclusions about what could have happened...hit and run, leaving scene, altercation, etc. Probably as simple as paramedics took injured guy away and with no ranger or police presence what is a rider supposed to do.....leave. After the fact the injured guy/insurance company realized they didn't have information on the mt biker and now they want that info.

Sounds like it happened near Nix Nature Center. The trails in that immediate area are for families. You’d have to go west of Serrano Ridge or south of the 73 to get to the enduro trails.

Some of the deets here seem a little off. "55 year old male" from one source, and 60s-70s on the Patch article. More glaringly, it's difficult to imagine a cyclist hitting a hiker so hard that the hiker is hospitalized without crashing pretty bad themselves. I'm not saying it is impossible, it's just fishy. We all know there are some irresponsible riders, but I've experienced shady and/or violent hikers even when I'm running or hiking. It's not difficult to conceive of a number of different scenarios with varying levels of fault going to either or both individuals. I'd love to get more details about this.

Regardless of how it appears to me, it does seem like the rider would be better off talking to the LEOs, (maybe with a legal rep present, though.) I hope the hiker recovers from his injuries.

one rule to follow in the criminal defense area. Don't ever talk.. Just say politely, "I will like a lawyer please. " Any other words should not be said.. ANY words... "So you don't want to talk? R u hungry? Can I buy you something to eat?" Again.. response is, "I will like a lawyer please." "No, I'm not hungry" is wrong response....

Just got done re-watching that show. Good stuff. Bosch is a Netflix original that uses some of the same actors, (Though Jamie Hector's character is decidedly different than Marlo.)
