    We started the ride with that route last year.
    img_6325-jpg.jpg

    Right now, I'm leaning toward a mellow climb up Wildhorse Meadows Road to the meadows before dropping into the Wildhorse Singletrack. Of course, Burt may have other suggestions once he has a chance to check the map.

    If I recall correctly that was an excellently planned route that not a single person complained about.

    I think @redwoods and I agreed we are going to do it on hardtails this year :whistling:

    1) I remember complaining vociferously - did I manage to keep it all in my head? That'd be a first.
    B) While I cannot yet commit to doing this ride this year, I will put it out there that if I can do it, I'll bring the HT. :thumbsup:

    Dirty D's route has that extra kick in the teeth, but I've heard it's quite possible to ride all the way from Big Bear to Redlands on a hardtail... Maybe even a hardtail with one gear. :whistling:

    You guys have fun... :thumbsup: And think of the poor bastard riding endlessly in circles when you're out there.

    Currently in the same boat, can't quite commit just yet but if I do then I'm thinking this should be the year of the HT.

    That decisions already been made for me :Roflmao I wish I could say I'd have the bonus of a lighter bike to push up the first hill (if we take the same route as last year that's unrideable) but my HT weighs as much as the squishy bike :eek:

    I’ve ridden the SS up there more than the FS bike…..

    the trail above South Fork, I’ve never done, but from South Fork down to Redlands, the only somewhat rough spot is around Thomas Hunting Grounds…but even then, it’s not that bad.

    the climb to Morton Peak is a grind, but if it’s not hit, it’s not that bad.

    I remember redwood not complaining at all but was joyful pushing his bike up the HAB first portion of the ride. something about what a great view!
    That was an epic start to epic ride. annual ritual with the nuggets but I always bail after the restaurant... the idea of doing morton peak in the dark.. yikes .....
    Still one of the best adventures in SCal.... let's see if I can make it...

    Oaks restaurant to where the trail dumps out on the Warm Springs fire road is IMHO the best part. Constance Peak/Thomas Hunting Grounds segments... just perfection!

    If heads start showing up with hardtails, I'm gonna wanna ride my hardtail, except the front wheel is not tubeless ready, and I was preparing to ride the SquiggleBug for the first time out there. So with the hardtail, I'd be 30 minutes faster on the climbs and 3 minutes slower on the DH.
    Last year, the shuttle cost $400. This year, it is $660, which is 65% more expensive because @GnastyGnate puked in the back of the van last year, and it still lingers.

    So far, the only definitive feedback I received is that Sunday 11/6 would work better, so for now the ride will be on Sunday 11/6/22. If we don't get close to a full shuttle, we'll consider arranging alternative transportation and driver(s).

    Definitive roster so far (subject to change):
    @burt
    @Dante Inferno
    @DangerDirtyD
    @Matty B

    Checking in on this shindig. I want to give Crazy Bear a decent heads up if we are to cancel the shuttle. We want 11 riders and so far have 7 as follows (subject to change):

    Still trying to find the right time to open negotiations with SWMBO, its a delicate balance when you're dealing with a red headed taurus and thats one of the only weekends your home in the middle of three work trips.
    I did tell @Ocpop about this on the weekend. He seemed pretty keen as long as it doesn't clash with some silly running thing he wants to do :D

    I'll see if I can elicit a response before the week is out. If you don't hear from me again you know how it went down.

    Well that went better than expected. SWMBO came home in a surprisingly good mood so I threw caution to the wind.
    I thought I'd try a different tact from the usual groveling (its so demeaning for both her and me). So I decided to lead with the alternative fact this was probably the last ride for the legendary Borselleck due to his imminent demise from a deadly infection of syphilis and monkeypox bought on by his weak genetics as a result of that glorious menage a trois in a Tajikistani goat herders shelter between Borat, Tom Selleck and an unknown Russian prostitute. I may have laid it on a bit thick as the missus promptly burst into tears and said of course I should go and support my biking comrade before he shuffles off this mortal coil.

    Getting permission next year might be problematic but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

    At the moment I'm in :thumbsup:

    Hey @Ocpop! How you doin!?

    Funny how most of the participants on the ride are registered here but do not participate on the forum. It seems like there's something to the private text message approach of organizing a ride. Nevertheless, if more heads decide to join, this ride will be one to remember, especially if you never ridden Wildhorse, and we will make arrangements so that no one is left out. @konakc , Morton Peak Trail in the dark is gnarly; c’mon!

    I am a knucklehead. Looking at this roster of rabbits and goats, I am way out of my league here. This is gonna be DDD escort down the mountain. Maybe there's a chance of riding so long that the one e-bike rider of the group will run out of battery power.

    Nope, that was the day you drank my extra water and ate all my gummy bears.

    It was the Idlehour ride after that where you managed to outlast the bike.

    Of course he will be. I'll make sure to pack my usual "save Dio" kit :Roflmao:Roflmao:Roflmao

    Hee! The "kit" is clutch for safety! There will be a full-spread lunch at The Oaks restaurant after about 25 miles. Anyone who wants to skip that head down or do extra credit is welcome to get their rocks off. I'm gonna scarf a ham & egg sandwich and chug a gallon of water.

    There are other options to Chicken Nugget with the gang, KC. You and @Cyclotourist could climb up Loch Leven and have lunch with us at The Oaks before dropping back down Loch Leven or the more advanced Thomas Hunting Grounds. We'll miss you in the wilderness of Wildhorse Meadows.
