More often called the Cannell Plunge, the name says it all. One of the most popular rides in the Kernville Area. This is a 25 mile point to point shuttle ride. The good news is it drops you within riding distance of the Kern River Brewery!

The elevation gain is a mere 1950 feet but the descent drops you to an elevation of 2862!

Starting at Sherman Pass at an elevation of 9072, even on warmer days it could start out cool. Heading due south you immediately drop onto the trailhead out of the parking lot and float along on gradual rollers peaking at 9330 feet approximately 4 miles into the ride. Great views on this one with every type of trail condition to make it an epic adventure. Many stop at the cabin for lunch before heading out across the awesome Cannell meadow, hit a few drops and then dive into the plunge. Bring your technical skills although not too technical it has it's awesome moments. Good to make sure you have good brakes as this can be a brake burner! Coming around a section of the "Plunge" will reveal an awe inspiring view of the entire Kernville Valley to see the entire Isabella Lake.

I am going to be in Kernville for the KRBC Citra release on November 10th with two friends. It looks like the weather will not be ridiculous. I would be very much interested in riding the Plunge before the beer drinking festivities ... if I can find someone to show me the trail. Hit me up, the beer is on me.

It’s easy to follow with Trailforks and if they are running a shuttle, you can always hook up with someone else. We almost always have some solo guy hook up and ride with our group

Yeah it looks like that is what I will need to do. I guess I will drive up myself as I doubt my friends will want to arrive in Kern from South L.A. by 8 AM.

I will be up there next Saturday. I hope it lives up to the hype ... from every review I have read, it sounds like a glorified version of San Juan Trail.

    I gots some bikes.
The "plunge" part at the bottom half reminds me of a chunkier San Juan. My favorite is from the beginning to the plunge. A lot chunkier with some fun spots, and then a fast romp across the meadow. The only part I didn't like was sucking wind at the climb at mile 1! I thought I was going to pass out.

I agree with pretty much all of this. The “plunge” gets all the hype but it’s the least interesting part of the ride to me but I still manage to have a good time every trip up there.

I will be up there on the 10th, not next week like I posted. It has been on my list since I started riding, so no excuse to not hit it ... especially since I have been at the brewery 5 times since then. I just hope the weather holds up.
