Lopes ALWAYS has a sweet van setup.

I always wanted to put one of these on my Hellement, pretty sweet, 'cept the cost. I believe it was around $5000.

Do they make a bigger bag to shower in? ;)

I've ghetto-styled it with a 5 gallon bucket, contractor trash bag and discarded toilet seat. Throw in some of that gel and a zip tie and you're golden. Plus you can set it up with outstanding views, like on the edge of a mesa (not suggesting you toss the bag).

I'm just thinking if I'm fully camped out inside a vehicle, I'd like to be able to take care of the basics. I spent 4 months on the New Mexico prairie working on a hundred year old farmhouse remodel, and slept in the back of my truck. Had a basic shell of course, and parked so I could watch the gorgeous sunsets, then starry night, and eventually pull the hatch down to sleep.

Which brings up another question.. does a van like this have a heater? I had 10 degree nights and needed a little electric room heater unless I was burrowed in my sleeping bags. The article didn't mention it but it seems fundamental for recovery between cold-weather races, or day trips..

Ohhhhh yeah! Cue 70s funk - Boom chika bwa wah...

No, but he was asking Z-Wazz questions about Maxxis Super Tacky vs 3C. It was fun watching the 20 year old (with arm in cast) share his knowledge with the veteran who is sponsored by Maxxis.

I can top that: I argued w him about lowering your seat on technical descents (I was descending Car Wreck w my seat all the way up). I told him I had better control w the saddle between my thighs. Brian was right when I discovered that it was better a few rides later. LOL

To each his own, but I would only lay cable in my rig if it was pouring outside. When that payload has no water to land in, it's way too nasty a smell for me if I have an easy out. If the resultant container needs to be trucked somewhere, it will be afixed to an exterior rack.

But yea, a lined five-gal bucket is the ticket for a DIY turlit. And the gel or powder is pretty effective overall if you knead it in from outside the bag and give it time to work. Yes, I am an expert at self-contained Sh!t management. I've months of practice on big wall climbs where LNT is the m.o.

Question: What does Brian Lopes actually do? I mean I know he used to race at the world cup level back in the 90's and kinda still races once in a while in some smaller events. But seriously what does he make a living doing? It kinda seems he just gets money for being Brian Lopes. Is just mostly a spokes person gig?

Having a "toilet" is key to staying on BLM lands. 5 gallon bucket, contractors (thick) trash bags, and a snap on toilet seat does the trick. Kitty litter can keep the odors down but pooping in the van is frowned upon.
