It’s a great feeling when a bike like this comes out and you realize that you’d rather own and ride the bike you already have.

 

Not cheap, but it can come much cheaper ;-). Seriously though, thanks for sharing. Ultimately not the bike for me, and the price is eye-watering, but kudos to Ibis for taking a big swing. Another very relevant manufacturer producing carbon bikes domestically definitely feels like a step in the right direction, regardless.

Good read, especially the observations in the epilogue. The kinked TT looks awkward, but let's you have two water bottles in the triangle. I like it!

 

Pretty impressive bike weight. But, my wallet weighs too little to even think about a price tag like that. I cant even swallow the price of a new Ripley frame

What's "rain?"

Although I'm not an engineer, one thing I notice about the "old" Yeti frame is that the shock force is transferred along the axis of the top tube whereas the Ibis frame applies it below the top tube. It makes me wonder whether an FEA would show something that isn't intuitive or if the frame is just so strong that it doesn't matter.

Make no mistake, e-bikes are taking over. I just got back from riding all around the Vegas Valley. At least half of the bikes there are e-bikes, the rest are man-powered but those riders are shuttlers. We are a dying breed...

 

Ugh, I saw that too, and came here to post. Bummed to see it. They seemed so avowed not to make en e-bike. I suppose it's just a necessary evil these days to compete as a bike manufacturer.

 

The pandemic has hastened the inevitable. There is more money to be made selling $5000 ebikes to fat people who want to pretend to be exercising than selling $2500 pedal bikes to potential future enthusiasts. That’s where the growth is. Our petty local access issues are a rounding error to Big Bike.

 

Out in Vegas, it was skilled, fit riders on them. It's way too technical for a fat person to be riding the trails out there. What e-bikes have done for those riders out there is it's made it possible to do two or more technical loops/laps instead of being spent after one. The motors have made those guys, who were already accomplished, even faster (on the climbs) through the loops/laps.

 

I was at the top of the Luge sometime in late 2020. There was a guy riding an e-bike with a group of riders on acoustic. He must have been 350+pounds. He was huffing and puffing, but he was out there. I think the machines have their use case. Maybe that guy gets the bug and sticks with the sport and is motivated to get healthy. A lot hate for ebikes. They don’t bother me. I’ll pedal as long as God gives me the ability.
