At approximately 5:30PM some Canadian wackjob was witnessed trying to cross the Parker Road border and doing a classic California stop by deputy Nicholas. He was obviously up to something cause one loud horn blast from Sheriff Voodoos Duramax and he instantly pulled that sh!t over. I had Rusty with with me for backup in case his story didn't jive. He looked pretty washed up though so I let him go with a notice to appear tomorrow...

 

I'll hold out excitement until I can see the BB. Might be tucking a motorized unit when you take a look underneath.

Christmas of '76 I got the Huffy monoshock and my two little sisters each got an orange one with the gas tank. I would later strip one of their bikes to race BMX because mine was too heavy.

 

Christmas of 74, Mongoose was the hot bike and thats what I asked for. I think they were about $200 back then which was the equivalent of $1067 so a lot of $$ for a 10 year old. I think my parents must have watched the Rikki Tikki Tavi movie and got confused because I ended up with some brand called a Cobra (the Mongoose's arch rival in the movie) that they bought on the Marine base. It has some sort of shock like the Huffy and Im not sure it did anything but I jumped that thing off homemade wooden ramps, over the bodies of numerous friends, all while wearing no helmet and lived to tell the tale. Good times!!

 

I guess I was pretty lucky. After beating up my sister's bikes my dad thought it was time I get a real BMX bike. Enter the FMF Team Replica. I worked all summer and earned enough money to pay for it on my own. I don't remember the exact build but it totaled almost $700 but they sold it to me for $350 because it was a complete bike.

They actually look pretty decent now. I could never get past the frame design before. Now I'd be willing to put them on a future possibility list after I demo'd one.

Still not in the market... but if I were, decision made - maybe even without a test ride. Well, I would want to test the Smash against the Megatrail back to back on the same trails. Not sure if I'm a 29er guy, despite my height. I've only ridden one modern slack, long travel 29er, and I liked my bike better.

 

Get a seat stay kit, shock, wheels and have both.
