scan planted in my beady noggin' the possibility of riding Skyline up in Big Bear on Black Friday.
Does anyone know the current conditions along Skyline? Do they have snow?

Snow Summit and Bear Mtn both have webcams. Easier to see during the day though. Doh!

I looked a little while ago, and there was quite a bit of snow on the webcams.

I assume those cams are on the ski runs, probably making snow, and the trails may be fine for now.........will have to follow the weather

I don't trust ski resort webcams this time of the year.

    Hi Guys,

The last storm dumped upwards of a foot of snow in upper Moonridge so the east end of Skyline will definitely still have some snow on it. Been relatively cold so not too much melting. In the areas of sun and shade it is probably a bit of ice. Supposed to get an inch or two of snow Wednesday thru Thursday and the high temps Friday will be high 30’-low 40’s. Definitely going to be fun stuff to ride in, but remember it is a holiday weekend in BB and it will be a zoo with skiers coming up.
Here is a picture my friend Roger Vieau took of Sugarloaf last Monday.

Oh come on Mikie, where is your sense of epic snow adventures? After all it is just a bit of snow over solid ice. :D

I'm looking to ride Skyline (Big Bear) this weekend. Does anyone know how this latest storm affected the trail. I'm hoping it will dry out a bit by Saturday.

No snow, but the shaded parts of the trail have ice on them or be extremely muddy.

Kinda of soft, but not bad overall. The areas with the enduro stages are pretty beat up, but still a blast to fly down. I loved it.

If you skip to about 29:00 you can see what the singletrack looks like. I don't know all the trail names, I just follow the arrows on course :)

That was a couple of races ago, but the trails are about the same.

Results of the last race and championship won't be spoiled. Ben will release the video Thursday night :)

I rode Pine Knot and the West half of Skyline to the fire road a couple of weeks ago, and it was perfect. Not sure about the rest of it, but seeing a lot of Strava check ins on my feed lately so I would assume it is all good.

    Great to hear.
    What's everyone preferred route?
I've only done up the east side and then westward on the whole loop.
    Is pine knot better?

I like starting at Pine Knot (Aspen Glen) because it is right in the middle and gives me a bail out option if I get tired on either side of Skyline. I usually go up Pine Knot, then either East or West and then back, and sometimes go a bit in the other direction as much as I feel like. I do prefer the West side overall as it has some techy climbing and the much more fun descents when turning back around.
