Well this is a sad moment, my FIVE TEN Impacts arrived today and I just tried them on, they are too snug. I went true to size and my toes are scraping the end of the toe box. They feel cramped and it feels like the padding is crunching my toes.

If u havent already, take a look at the outsole on the altra grafton. Better profile for riding flat pedals than most trail runners, and the rubber is sticky!

Thanks. I called them (back country) and got an RMA, they waived the $6.99 return label fee. I also went ahead and ordered the Five Ten Freeriders and went with a 9.5 instead of a 9. Should be here Thursday afternoon.

Kevin, the Back Country rep that helped me out over the phone was awesome.

Bummer, but not an uncommon story, especially for those who fit specific models and expected that fit on future same shoes. All FT shoes seem to run small now. I noticed that with the last three pairs I bought.

And yes, if you have a wide foot, forget it. If you have anything near a pronounced arch, consider Superfeet footbeds or something with real arch support. Fifty bucks and worth it. The stock insoles are pathetic as far as support.

I got two pairs of FT Guides, a half size different. I use the stock insoles, footbeds and sock thickness to customize the fit. Foot bliss.

Same here. Its also known as "Morton's toe". Even my middle toe is longer than the big toe. Makes shoe fitting wierd and makes me prone to forefoot pain because the weight shifts to the 3d metatarsal instead of the big toe metatarsal which has more natural padding. Limits my running.

Impact Low and Guide Tennie are the stiffest I’ve used. Freerider Contact was not very stiff or durable for me. A little too light duty overall.

Just did a first ride with my new Ride Concepts Powerlines. I had a pair of Hellions for the last year, which still have some life left; much more than ive ever gotten out of a five ten. I have very wide feet and five tens were narrow, the hellions were better but still a tad narrow but a very comfortable midsole with some cushion. the Powerline has a lot more volume, I really like the fit I even had to wear thicker socks! Very comfortable and the grip was just fine on chunky Laguna trails. (Rattlesnake, BVD, tna). Rubber seems like a great mix of grippy yet durable, and I cant believe the upper wouldnt be as durable as the hellion. So far my favorite riding shoe ever.
One con: they will be hot in summer!

Without a way to check them out in a store, I had to buy two of everything to figure out what will work for me. they all kind of fit okay, so I need to decide if I want them to be a little bit larger or not. The free riders are definitely the previous generation models, as they run a little bit small they don't say Adidas on them.

I did similar. Not multiple sizes, but multiple shoes after the Trailcross were a way off fit. Got another pair of Freeriders that I knew would fit as the gold standard, and a pair of Impact Pros that I think will work. They're the slightest bit snug on my larger foot, just rubbing the outside toes a tad, but I feel like they'll work after they break in slightly. Debating whether or not to roll the dice on those.
