You toss the bikes in the back of the truck and you head out to go for a ride. Maybe you have to stop at the store before or after... to get stuff. How do you lock up your bike so it's hopefully there when you get back to the truck?

    I know nothing is Guaranteed...
But when you toss your bike in the back of your truck or even on a bike rack, we try to lock them up to keep them safe from the more honest thieves (are there such of a thing?)

What locking system best puts your mind at ease?
(Actually asking for a friend...)

I engage in one of two options in these circumstances. They are presented below in order of preference:

    Option No. 1:

    Option No. 2:

Locking the bike in the bed of the truck is like fishing for pieces of Sh!t.

No truck and no rack on my car.
I always put my bike on the back seat that's why I have 4 door.....
The dealer did look at me funny when I said that while shopping for the car.

I bought this lock for those occasions. Hasn't been tested by humans in the wild yet and hope it never does.

I also just take front wheel off bike and put in back seat area of my truck. That's how i'm rolling today since i'm headed over to J's Garage to swap out cranks later today.

I have a 1/2" thick coated steel cable that's long enough to run through both frames, wheels and tailgate pad and still secure to the truck with a giant Master Lock padlock. So far, I'm batting 1000 in 15 years of use.

P.S. The same combination is used to secure our bikes in the garage.

I'll use a cable lock for times like a gas station stop when the bike is only out of sight for a minute. Any more time than that and I'll put the heavy Kryptonite chain on if I can't put the bike inside the truck. Inside the truck is preferred since it is more out of sight. With the camper I can now put it inside the bed with a cover over the window.

Only time I've ever had someone mess with my bike was at work when I ended up working late. I'd left the bike laying in my open bed possibly locked with just a cable since it was my 10yr old Ibis at that point. Came out and the bike was half on the bed rail like someone tried to pull it before discovering it was locked, but didn't have anything to cut the cable with. Brought it inside after that, since they would likely have a cutting tool the next time.

I have the same setup... I think my cable is 15 feet and I have the heaviest lock I could find. But I don't trust it for long, or where I can't see the truck. We've been hitting the local taco place frequently after rides, and it's easy to pull the bike off and take it right inside with me. The girls behind the counter have never batted an eye...

This is what I use. You can use a grinder to get through it I’m sure but it won’t be easy or quick and you’ll be making a Sh!t ton of noise.

For ultimate protection, the Altor SAF and Hiplock D-1000 are the locks to get, then decide what chain for an (relatively) impenetrable system

The best bike locks will ensure your bike stays where you left it and prevent thieves from stealing your pride and joy. Some of the best and most commonly used bike locks are U-locks, a highly secure option that offers a high level of security for the price and ease of transport. Another option might be folding locks or chain locks, which are as secure as U-locks but have extra flexibility. Or lightweight locks which you can always carry with you, and travel as light as possible.

I have the kryptonite U lock and the cable. Use it to lock to the car rack, figure it'll stop those crimes of opportunity but not the prepared scumball thief. It is pretty heavy duty and have only used it a couple times. Like many, whenever possible try to keep the bike in view or hidden from view.

I use a basic cable lock. I don't let it go out of sight long enough for someone to have time to get an idea AND take action.
