Beer ...I Drank Some.

I'm primarily a Mexican Beer fan myself.
Some relatives dumped one of those mixed beer conglomerates on me a while back and they looked foreign and . . . ish! dare I say? IPA'ish?

The first one I tried was called Angeleno from Angel City Brewery IPA India Pale Ale. It was a one swigger and then dump down the drain...

But there was one in there I tried today and found it to be very good . . . Newcastle Brown Ale touting it's 4.7% Alcohol by volume. I have never had one before and it was suprisingly good!

"I don't know what good beer is, but I know what I like!"

Newcastle was a go-to beer for me for a long time. There was a great Mexican Restaurant/Bar in downtown Denver called The Punch Bowl who served us many many pitchers of Newcastle in my 20s and early 30s.

Sam Adams Cold Snap is great. Trader Joe's Providential (in a large bottle) is imported from Canada and is a spectacular Belgian-style white.

Let the IPA guys (and girl) start jumping in here.

Before the micro-brew explosion, New Castle was one of the best for my taste buds. Now it tastes very watery to me :shh:

In the same style as Newcastle but with allot more flavor and stuff is my current fav, Red Trolley Ale (Karl Strauss brewery in San Diego). Fat Tire is runner up.

For something different, love an old school Bavarian Hefeweizen. An unfiltered wheat beer but completely different than the usual Belgian and American fruity Hefs (imo). Paulaner is wonderful but expensive, but found some at Trader Joe's that's nearly as good, Josephsbrau Bavarian Style Hefeweizen. Banana & cloves, mmmmm, like drinking banana bread.

Obviously I'm not a fan of hoppy stuff either, don't like grapefruit which is what most IPAs taste like to me.

Hey, where's the "cheers" emoticon? :wtf:

Shock Top? Mexican Beer? How about Natural Light while you're at it?

In all seriousness with all the stuff on the shelves it's hard to tell whats good and what sucks without trying it.

That said.

I like IPAs, and am admittedly pretty beer snobbish about it. (don't even get me started on whiskey). Anyhow, if you like IPAs, do yourself a favor and try these *stuff that comes in cans and fits in a camelbak!

"Pizza Port Brewing - SWAMIS"
"Ballast Point - Sculpin" - sissy boy and don't like IPA - or already had sculpin / like it / TRY "Sculpin with grapefruit" I know, sounds like barf, but it's a good one, I promise.
"Avery - IPA"

Post ride bottle only and my favorite "Strand Brewing - White Sand IPA"
And the standard by which all others are measured "Russian River - Pliney The Elder"

BIG BOY Double/Tripple IPAs for the alcoholics in the group, you know who you are.
"Knee Deep - Simtra" this is my brew of choice because I can catch a buzz without all the calories. *pretty sure it's clear what category I fall into by now.
"Stone - Ruination" get em before they're gone!

Please note: If you actually really like mexican beer, you probably won't like any of these.

I must try this. I actually think Stone's regular IPA tastes a lot like grapefruit juice.

I'm digging the trends. Stone, Golden Road, Sierra Nevada Torpedo some of my favorite IPA's. Also a fan of Newcastle and Heineken. After 1000+ miles I've got more good things to say than bad about the 1 x 11 but that's for another thread. :D

Cheers

Dredging the damaged brain cells of my misspent youth in the service of Uncle Sam's Yacht Club, I vaguely remember Victoria Bitter and Swan Lager, along with Emu something or other, while chasing blonde Sheilas on Australia's west coast. Good, if somewhat hazy, times. ;)

And I simply must add, even though it will sound snarky, petty, and combative - even though it is emphatically not meant as such - any beer to which one must add lemon or lime is not actually beer. Swill, perhaps, but not a brew worthy of passing the gullet.

^^^OH, How fun is THIS post then following the two just above?^^^

I'm strogly against ANY beer that comes out of a can! How can they take the art of "brewing" seriously???

The Only canned beer I would consider is Tecate in the can as it is a moral imperrative to encompass Lime, Salt, and Tequilla as ingredient in this concotion!!

How is that for a double whammy.
Yes, I used "whammy"!

I used to be a beer snob, but I've come to appreciate a Coors Light on a hot day.

I still love going to the small local breweries and filling my respective growlers, but every beer has it's place... sort of like bikes available in Walmart. They still put smiles on faces.

Yep! Nothing like a semi ice cold Coors Light in the can, coveralls, a pitch fork, and a straw stuck between remaining teeth... :o I"M JUST KIDDING!

So is it wrong to be sitting at work at 8:15 am thinking about MTB's and beer at the same time? Could be a long day...

I do that and still knock out 30 stops an hour! I guess as long as it doesn't interfere with your work then it should be okay. [emoji12]

This site gets me through the day. It's great to take a break from all of these discrimination complaints.

The other thing that gets me through the day is my noonish Coors Light Shandy I drink from a straw.

Escaping the IPA prison, can we all agree that a room temp Guinness Stout is an elixir of the gods? If we can not agree, then I'll go it alone. :)
You most definitely must be of strong European descent because I only know how to say "beer" with the words "ice cold" in front of it! 8-) Follows along the same line as "A nice hot shower", or "steaming vegetables"...

Okay, maybe not "steaming vegetables" but you get the picture.
I will however drink with you...maybe at seperate tables...
