I've been feeling bad about the fires around the state and all that has been lost - personal property and natural areas/trees and wildlife too.

I mentioned in the wildlife thread about riding in Waterton Lakes National Park located in Alberta. Last September the park was devastated by a fire. Due to high winds and unusual fire behavior (where have we heard that before) the fire tore through the forest so fast that some animals were not able to escape.
A dry summer combined with lots of fuel because of many dead trees killed by the bark beetle made conditions perfect for a fire. Almost 40% of the trees in the park were affected. 80% of the hiking trails were also impacted.

I grew up just over an hour from the park and I have been there many times. Even after moving to California we still made the trip often. The beauty of the place is incredible. It hurts to think about the place never being the same at least in my lifetime.

Some of my pictures of the area that I took on hikes and bike rides in the park.

You certainly do have a camera’s eye!
The good news through all this bad fire is it has been going on since the beginning, and nature most always bounces back!
I hang on to hope and faith it will return...

Met my "valley girl" wife in college. She didn't think she could handle the cold in Canada.

Thanks Mikie. The trees will grow back and the mountains and lakes are still beautiful.

Great pics and it does suck when fire destroys something we truely enjoy.

Now on the other hand.....you gotta learn to lay your bike down on the non drive side. Putting your bike down on the drive side opens your derailleur up to getting bent. (Sorry pet peeve)

If I laid it down on the non drive side it would have ruined the composition of the picture. Art before function ;)
Now that I think of it maybe that is the reason I crash to the left when I "lay my bike down"

I've bent my rotor more often than my derailleur, but that's cheaper and easier to fix.

    Beautiful photos. Sad topic.

I cannot quite figure out how to bend a rotor. o_O At least, not while actually riding the bike. Damn, you're good!!!

Lay your bike down on its left side on uneven terrain a few times, or pack it in a truck/car incorrectly. You can do it - I have confidence in you!
