How low was it? We're going to go up and try to find some snow to play in tomorrow, hoping to not have to go up too high...

I drove my U-haul through one of NY's biggest blizzard Feb-Mar '10. Was sooooo fun driving through the mountains, which surprisingly wasn't that scary cause the roads were empty. Applied similar 'energy management' and traction control techniques that I also use while riding. Had surprisingly good traction, with whatever tires they had on the truck that I picked up from Winter Park, FL, and with a moderate amount of weight in the back.

Here... the scary part is knowing that there's a high chance of one of the other drivers on the road being clueless. Got to stay alert for those types.

Go EARLY. We left at 7AM and hit the base of the mountain about 8AM and had about a 30 minute wait at the chain stop (even tho I was driving a 4WD). By the time we came off the mountain about 1PM the road was backed up solid all the way down to the bottom.

Snow was LOW - kids were playing in it at 3000 feet. The photo of my dog was at 6500 - it was about 18" - 24" there.

I love driving in the snow, and I miss it - but I don't love traffic jams in the snow. Too many clueless drivers with bad equipment and no skills makes it nothing but a dangerous clusterf***!

Trust me, as someone who grew up outside of Chicago... people don't have a clue. Yesterday I watched some fool do a 180 in his pickup truck. My daughter asked me how he did it... and I said he had to TRY to.
