5 Deer Double Loop-D-Loop

Where: Intersection of Bouquet Canyon & Spunky Canyon Road
Ride Description or Details:
Starts up a little technical transfer singletrack to a 5 mile fire road climb, we head east along the ridge to some bombing singletrack then over to the 5 Deer Trail. Drop the trail back to the fire road, where we are going to climb about 3 1/2 miles back to the top to hit the same but go further east to hit some SOT and drop the 5 Deer Outside loop! To hit some big roller coasters and some technical drops with knife edged ruts with big sharp teeth. Certainty of death, no chance for survival.... What are we waiting for!

Anticipated Mileage: Been a while, need to calculate. Most likely 20ish...
Elevation Gain: Yep!
Ride Duration: 3 to 4 hours depending on pace
Previous Ride Reports: A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...
Think 5 Deer Outer Loop with actually doing 5 Deer first.
Possible Bail-Outs: Yes. After the first loop and completion of 5 Deer, one could drop back down the fire road to hit the transfer singletrack back to the trailhead.
Facilities: Nope. None in sight...
Food/water suggestions: Depends. I'll be carrying a Camelbak in prep for Kokopelli.
70 ounces of water with 6 scoops of Tailwind Nutrition.

Bummer, the timing for me is off, I'll be up north fishing, and maybe drinking like a fish. I would have liked to do this, been a long time since I've ridden up there! Be a good ride have fun!

 

Here is the exact ride and stats. Now the trail is more rideable than at that time. Definitely a blast to ride, 5 Deer is true backcountry singletrack. Bring your A game!

Nice route. I lived in Green Valley from 2002-2007 and rode that area a lot. There are several moto trails in the area that are MTB friendly too.

 

@UPSed it really seems like the trail is so different than it used to be. It still has the same chunk but feels much more flowy on top of the chunk. Maybe it is just the difference in bikes from the early 2000s.

 

I'm guessing it's the bikes these days. Last bike I rode up there was my '04 Enduro with 26" wheels. How are the ruts towards the top?

Well hell. I've been informed we need to be back by 1pm for Jennifer's birthday celebration and I don't see that happening with a 9am start time and an hour drive each way. I am hoping to do this ride in the next few weeks so I'll be looking forward to your ride report.

Sorry, for late post. The ruts are still there but manageable. Might again be the wheel size. I was on a 26" Spec Stumpjumper hardtail most of the time
