When you are in the peloton you often don't have much room. I've been in races where one person went down in the middle of the pack and no one else and I've been in races where we're swept across the road in a diagonal and one person goes down and the sweep propagates across the group taking out half of them unevenly.

It's a crapshoot what happens depending on skill and luck and room for maneuvering and comfort with brushing others but it is not a given that you can just brush a hundred or so pounds unequally applied on your handlebars or body away.

Exactly why I don't ride in them. Ignorance - nay, stupidity - reigns in such conglomerations. I don't want a Stravidiot anywhere near me when I'm riding my bike.

Ha! That's what I said in my other post.
Ride inches from another bike and you get what you get.

I hope that my tongue in cheek was not completely obscured.

Training for knocking spectators out of the way…sounds like a late-nite skit.:D

I wear elbow pads, I surf and play hockey. I think I would have prevailed! :sneaky:

OTOH - I would have been at the back of the pack, so it wouldn't have affected me!

There is a certain excitement of being in a peleton or pace line at those speeds. I always felt safer on the road bikes with narrower bars. Being in a pack of mtn bikers with wide bars is a bit scary.

I can understand that. I'm not interested in being in the middle of a pack of any of them. I don't trust them.

A group of four or less, composed of people I've ridden with - great!!! More than four, I'm always at the back anyway and it usually isn't an issue.

But on the road, they're mostly idiots. There, I ride solo.

#1 Team riding depends upon people being within inches of your rear, um rear wheel. I used to close that gap and give the rear a little scrub with my front. Some people do not take kindly to that.
#2 I used to snake behind people. The last time was in Sulli, I was jumping everything that would give me lift. I could see the guy in front of me from his back, shoulders, the top of his helmet, back, repeat.
#3 I used to snake skiing the single track, the leader fell and I almost missed him until he slid down in front of me, hence I tattooed my ski tips into his back. (why I do not snake anymore).
#4 On ToC I would go to the top of the Rockstore climb and watch the riders go by, mere inches away. No peletons at the top of Encinal cyn. They did 4 laps so it was good entertainment. We had Trojan man, Green dude, Viking guy. I would set up across from Nutristuff and watch their giant big screens until the race passed again. Most people just drew with chalk, and nobody actually got in the way.
#5 I hate dust, the Baleen Wall was my last group ride because of the dust.
#6 I cannot ride now because I flew a very long distance, the landing did not score well. The doctor excoriated me for riding alone in the twilight.

This doesn't sound good. Did you elaborate on this mishap elsewhere? I can't keep up with all of the shenanigans of the Hooligan(l)s.

I find it crazy that she is untraceable, give a huge monetary reward and someone will rat her out. Someone knows who she is. It would be hard to miss a woman in a yellow jacket with a sign running down the street. Give it time, they will find her and she will be held responsible.

I watched stage 3 last night. Oh the pain, seeing riders land, bike attached and tumbling. Made my shoulder ache. At the last 100 yards two more went down. One guy was still on the ground when the race was complete. I could feel their pain

John should sue Specialized. I haven't checked, but I'll bet he's been around longer....

I checked. He was around longer until the end of last year anyway. Maybe his estate could sue on his behalf.:Roflmao

I made the cutoff on the Crusher on Special Ed tires.....

I did not make the cutoff on the Crusher on Maxxis tires.

I will not attempt to editorialize on this.:whistling:

Uh oh... I'm in a similar boat. I can't keep a Maxxis from shredding on the rocks up here. I know that's heresy around here... They may be sharpening the pitchforks now.

Ok... There doesn't seem to be any new developments in the case of the Gernch sign, so here's an interesting derail to pass the time. Note the stats between the actual tour, and the unsupported tour.

To me, this sounds more interesting than the real race...

Hmmm, I’m willing to look dumb here. How can he outrun the Peleton to Paris?
Sounds like he has additional miles and climbing due to self supported. I “sped red” it so what did I miss, oh one who does not ride imtbtrails authorized tires and attempting to change the subject…:sneaky:
    Is pretty cool though.
