@scottay there is the Joshua Ranch aka P12. There are a lot of short trails for lots of options similar to Tapia but not as big of climbs. I would be happy to show you around, bring @Voodoo Tom and @mountaingirl sara. Maybe we can convince @Mikie. BBQ or at a minimum beers at my house afterwards. I live about 1.5 miles from there

 

At least there is a fire camp down in the Big Rock Creek Canyon......

Here are some crappy pictures taken from a ride I just did in Pmdale looking across at the Wrightwood/Pinon Hills area.

 

I can see it from SCV, looks bad. Lost some houses I heard. Bummer, hope the smoke doesn't drift your way.

Right now the wind is in our favor but not so much on the Wrightwood/Pinon Hls favor

 

I just took the commuter downtown (1 mile slight DH), and I realize I have no power left in my legs. Your ride last weekend with Laguna and Topanga back to back is badass. How do you feel today after yesterday’s ride? Personally, I’m in recovery mode for 5 days.

My recommendation to you is no more big climbing days for the week. Spin away the miles and get the lactic acid out of your legs, but save your power for showtime. I don’t think you’ll have any substantial gains in fitness if you do another medium to large ride this week, compared to the fatigue you will experience from overtraining.

 

Agreed Triple D. A couple of relatively easy rides would be perfect. Me? I'm gonna walk 8-12 miles a day and hope for the best on Saturday.

I thought Scan did recon in WW and it was open.

 

I feel pretty much like business as usual today. I was wiped out last night though. The recovery from the Laguna/Santa Monicas double header from last week required more recovery, for sure.

And yeah, nothing crazy this week. Doing what I think will be a <15mile night ride on Wednesday, and that will be it until Saturday.

 

He only did part of the ride.

 

This is the latest email from WW50’s head guy Eric.

“And.... we are done. No go for 2020.
I have no confidence in what will or will not be open this weekend. What was opened last weekend is not open this weekend. Areas on closure maps have wide open gates. It's a toss up and for that reason and the safety of all riders, we will NOT be holding the WW50 in 2020.”

I bet the western part of it was closest to the approaching Bobcat fire, that's my guess. I rode the end at the top of blue ridge.

Fran, I read on WrightwoodCalif.com that there was a small fire (5 acres) near Fenner Sadddle on Fri./Sat. I'm guessing that prompted the FR closures, and Eric's termination of this year's event.
