Plan on working out shuttle service to the start. Either on your own or through the one B4B arranges. This is a fund-raising event that Bike for Bender puts on. The ride is free, the only charge is for the shuttle if you choose to use theirs.

This is absolutely on my calendar, but I've got an engagement at the Staples Center later that night.... soooo, not sure if I can swing both :|

I loved this ride last year though, and am really looking forward to it again this year.

 

Dammit, I just got the blah blah blah Saturdays are our busiest days lecture from my boss today. blah blah F-N BLAH

I'll hope for a miracle on this one.

 

I like to ride it the day after. Trail is usually in great shape.

 

Yea! Maybe we can find stuff that falls out of rider's packs and pockets, like extra bike gear; tubes, tools, glasses etc.

 

You wouldn't believe the loot those spandex warriors drop at the 12 Hours of Temecula! It pays for the admission!

Hoping to! Lot of moving parts that have to come into alignment first...

 

I was signing on to get this added to the calendar. Good to see it already done. Details will be out shortly, but things will mostly be like last year. Registration for the shuttle buses will be available mid-September.

 

Planning on being there. This is an imtbtrails get together event!

This is a really cool event. Hope to make it out there again this year. I think the kid wants to go too. Will be his first time.

 

Saved the date for the shuttle registrations. Thanks for the info. Still unsure if I can swing it, but I really had a blast last year and WANT to go this year again.

 

Looking for a little help. We'll have pint glasses for sale again this year. We're stuck between these 2 on the final design. Any opinion let me know (ignore the white bar behind the logo).

I'm the oddball, I guess... #2! In #1, my eye is primarily drawn to the Hell Ride logo, while my eye is drawn to both logos equally in #2. I like the balance...

And Berni has the right idea. They look funny empty.

 

How is a shuttle a "Hell Ride"?

Yeah... I read the ride reports. I didn't see much hellfire and brimstone. I'm willing to give it a try anyway.

 

Why is it called Hell Ride?

1) Tradition - this ride started over 25 years ago with a group of 10-12 guys who all worked at ESRI (local GIS company). They rode from Big Bear to Redlands on either Rigid bikes or early forms of suspension. With about 3000' of climbing, 60ish miles, and a full day on those bikes it become known as Hell Ride and it's grown into what we have now.

2) The Weather - having the ride in October you never know what you'll get. 2 years ago there was a lot of rain, only about half finished the full ride. Some years it's 90+ degrees and you're out for 4-5 hours. About 5 years ago there was a snow storm the night before and it was 20 degrees at the start.

Last year the weather was about perfect, nothing hellish about it, but it's still about tradition and what those guys did the first few years. They named it and we've stuck with their name.

Times have changed and the baseline has been raised. Tradition is valid, but Mr. J-Zilla would be in heaven to ride from Hangar 24 to Wildhorse Meadows and back...on a Hardtail...with one gear...and maybe a hydration pack.
