2 Riders Airlifted in San Clemente

As much as I hate to say it, the more eBike incidents that make the news, the better.

 

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this.

 

Except that the news describes them as mountain bikers, not e-bike riders. Which is not good.

My bad. I don't actually know. I just assumed ... as it was first posted in the E-motorcycle collision San Clemente thread.

 

@Stubborn Approach stated in another thread that it was indeed two eBikers that collided. He stated he was there.

 

2 Giant Reign E bikes. Now I know who it was & he states that he came up short on a jump & buddy landed on him. They had hit the jumps before but this attempt didn’t go so well for them, surgery number 1 for one of the riders will take place today. He’s in good spirits, which is incredible to see imo. Wishing both riders a quick & complete recovery is the only acceptable response to a situation like this.

I have now seen the video of the incident & the leading rider believes that he suffered a mechanical (hub) which caused him to come up short on a jump & was then bucked OTB causing the break of a collarbone & a couple handfuls of ribs. He was released from the hospital yesterday. His buddy who was following him tried to avoid & wound up OTB as well. Neither rider collided with the other but wound up right next to each other.

 

Ouch! I hate to see anyone get hurt. Fast healing fellers!

I just got the 100% x ray on the clavicle yesterday, end of May till 12 of Jan. That took awhile

 

Thanks for the details. Glad to hear the injuries weren't worse. When you hear advanced life support, you think the worst. What about the other rider?
You know what they say, "you can't really call yourself a cyclist unless you've broken a collarbone" ;-)

 

Im definitely not a cyclist.

The other rider was sore but home that evening reportedly. There is a video on YouTube detailing the entire event from one of the riders in the ebike crew that was a witness to it all.

I would have linked it already but I dont want to unnecessarily upset any of the members who see red when it comes to assisted hill bikers attention seeking behaviors.
